What would you do?

Update. My Rampage came on Friday but they turned up at 7:15 am. I'm not a pensioner so obviously I was in bed.

Went down to collect it this morning, fitted it and then followed a simple three step guide by Asus. 1.4v, 47 multi, memory 1866.

Job done. The MSI was an utter turd to overclock.

Very happy boy. Back up to around 17k physics score in 3DM :D

I returned my MSI board last week to overclockers and bought a new one the same from the horrible e-tailer i don't like while the old one was rma'd to overclockers and it was DOA so that goes back tomorrow I just hope the horrible E-tailer is as good as overclockers were with me this morning. Like you Vault-tec I will never buy MSI again I have just ordered an asus M5A99X EVO I bet that will work for years at least I know where I am with Asus

Get tuning then - lowest volts possible or wring its neck!!! You never know what you might get!

The only issue I've had with an Asus board is with my Crosshair. For some reason it keeps booting into the bios without pressing anything. It's not a biggy, there's a boot over ride in the bios.

I now know that the MSI was faulty from the beginning. Obviously bad power phases, so there goes their testing and the crap sheet of card with the gold "tested" logo on.

Right from the off whenever the rig was overclocked it would take two boots to start. The PC would start, fans spin up, LEDs light up then the PSU would make a tweeting sound and the rig would reset before booting OK. Once I was in it was as stable as a rock but yeah, odd reset issue at boot.

I guess the phases got worse over time, right up to the point where my CPU was throttling to 1.1ghz.

I'll admit, I found the MSI bios to be a bit over complicated and boring. Way too much stuff to set up to overclock. The Asus on the other hand? as I said, three simple steps that took about ten seconds and here I am..

Tom. From what I recall I used to get 4.7ghz with around 1.37v. However, that was that board. Asus say that it's completely safe to use 1.4v on these chips like 24/7 perma. So for now I will leave it because TBH? I've had about as much pissing around with motherboards and bioses as I can take right now. I'm just super happy that it's actually working properly now.

I may try again for 4.9ghz (I could get it bench stable but the temps were like 1c from the limit) but as I say right now I'm just stoked that it's all working properly for the first time ever :)

Done some more testing and a couple of benchmarks.

Had some weird problems earlier. Basically the sound card sounded really odd and the control panel would not open. Kept saying it could not find the audio device even though it was ruddy playing along. It was terrible though, horrid echoes and stuff. Ended up taking it out, removing the drivers, installing the chipset drivers (which I think is where the fault lie) and a reinstall and it's finally done.

That should be about it.

I also really didnt like the msi bios maybe its because I am so used to Asus like you I had that boot issue on an asus board I reflashed the bios to solve it in the end good luck with getting to 4.9 mate :)
