Difference of the 3930K and the 3960X

Hi,

I was wondering if the only difference between the 3930K and the 3960X apart from clock and turbo speed is the 3MB of L3 cache ?

Does that really justify the €400 of price difference ?

How much are those 3MB of cache noticable ?

Yes those are the differences. The 3930x comes with a better cooler also. Very unreasonable prize jump

The difference is so minimal that the massive price difference is nowhere near justified. The sensible choice would be to go for the 3930k like Azurite

Yep, I can get a 3930K + Motherboard for the same price as a 3960X.

Well I guess it's time to save up some money now haha !

The only other issue is supply

Getting a 3930k seems to be as hard as getting funds out of the bank manager

'Scuse the double post. Yoyotech delivered for me yesterday, so I thought I might post a shot of my first OC on SB-E, 4.5GHz, CPU strap 125mhz 36x ratio at 1.365V in bios. For some reason purely overclocking in the ratio didn't work, I always came out at 3.2GHz.

Either way, SB-E all the way.

im not trying to be a twit here.....

a nice overclock indeed...

but the screen shot in itself IS the difference between the 3930K and the 3960X!!!

Im quite positive 5ghz would be in reach of the x-treem

Not according to the review sites out there. Most agree that the 3960x doesn't clock any better. I managed to boot into windows at 5.0GHz, which wasn't IBT stable at 1.38V, and 4.75GHz which was almost stable (failed at about the tenth pass of IBT. I guess with a bit more familiarity with the board I could coax a bit more out of it.
