Dialectric grease

Hey all,

Bit of advice needed... I once ownes a vapochill and used Dialectric grease in the socket. The cpu i used still has it on the pins and as i dont use phase id like to remove it? Whats the best method ie;tools....

Help would be appreciated

A lot of people here use electrical contact cleaner - you buy it from places like RS components or Farnell - expect to use a whole can though.

Cheers MAv, I dont know what RS components or Farnell is i live on a little island which is 3miles by 2 and a 1/2 lol. But ill see if i can get some on the net. Appreciate your help Mav

For future reference for anyone wondering, pure alcohol, meths and white spirit also work well.

Tools to use are: kitchen towl, small container for swilling pins of CPU in, soft brush (old toothbrushes work great), and some patience.

The wife's nail polish remover works a treat or contact cleaner

Where can we get pure alcohol from - I am not keen on using meths/or white spirit as it can leave a trace behind (can't it?)

Also nail polish remover is usually acetone base - Won't that react with the socket or lacquer on the board itself?

Only use non acetone and only on the cpu pins
