Dell Inc., aiming to rev up sales as its mainstay personal-computer business struggles in the recession, is preparing a move into cellphones as early as next month, said people familiar with the matter.
This is a rumor btw, and here's a link to the TheWallStreetJournal.
(just to add, I don't endorse signing up to wsj to "read more", I'd search further)
This is where I read it continued the news: .... The phones will be based on Google Inc.’s Android operating system and Microsoft Corp.’s Windows Mobile software, according to the reports. Dell has recently cut two Microsoft-related deals. Earlier month, Dell revealed that it was switching its pre-installed default search tool from Google to Microsoft’s Live Search toolbar. It also acquired the Microsoft consulting and solutions portion of Allin Corp. in a stock deal worth $12 million. At least one model of Dell’s cell phone will feature a touchscreen, similar to the iPhone’s, according the report. Although the cell phone could be released as soon as a month from now, Dell has not finalized its plans and may still abandon them, the newspaper reported.
