A good article that I found
Define Clutch: a tense critical situation;performing well under extreme pressure;Being “clutch” is often seen as an innate skill to be possessed — some players have it, some players don’t.
We have all been in a Clutch situation - your the last alive, there are three left on the opposition side and there is more than enough time on the clock for you to take the round if you can clutch it!
Many people belive that a Clutch round is just down to per-luck or even the stupidity of the opposition your playing, how many times have you seen someone plant the bomb on a clutch round only for your team to go in one-by-one and have their head splattered on the wall on the way. C’mon i know you’ve done it and know i have!
Of course when your the lucky one on a clutch round there a few thing most people think of doing and these tend to be:
1: Rush out and hope to hit some heads
2: Sneak a plant/defuse and hope for the best
3: Wait out the round and save that pistol!
What i tend to always find is that people panic when there left on there own and the odds are stacked against them, they forget about the round time, and if this is high they never seem to use it to their advantage.
Lets take this little situation for example on de_inferno;
Your T on de_inferno, you have just rushed middle and four of your team was taken out by two guys staked on the left side. Your left with 1:20 on the clock, a smoke, a single flash bang and your trusty glock.
What do you do?
Well apart from falling away from middle while you calm down your nerves, you have quite a few options open to you such as:
- Fall back and push the balcony and hope no one else is waiting
- Storm in public style and collect heads
- Rotate back to Banana (A site) and cross your fingers they have rotated and not left anyone holding the site
- Sit still and attempt to pick up that bomb thats sat at the top of middle crossover
Now all over the above are things id expect to see from your average CS player, and tbh i wouldnt blame you for doing any of them as your in a pretty sticky situation.
But just think about it abit more, you only have a glock and limited flash/nades so it must be a eco round - which in turn leads us to belive that the CTs must have a good round or two more worth of buy-up cash. So apart from getting the plant for that extra $$$ wouldnt it be a good idea to take out at least two if not three of the CT’s if possible to mess with there money.
Taking out three players cash could lead to them being unable to buy and forcing the other players to drop for them depleting cash reserves for the entire time not just the ones you killed
Of course going for a “kill clutch” is quite tricky to get away with, but if your succesful you can cripple a teams confidence - if one person can take out 3/4 on there own with just a glock what are they going to do with a gun?
The Clutch round is what shows a players true skills, as not only does it focus on a players aim but also on the players ability to turn the game around to the advantage point.
When i think of clutch players i think of the likes of ZBoards HenryG and uQ.Gamings Splatio - both of them have played in key clutch moments in high level games and won them. Im sure if you ask either of these guy how they feel about clutch rounds they will say that they actual enjoy them, as they know everything is down to them and thats when there gamesense really kicks in.
So next time you find yourself against 3 or 4 players, take your time and think about what would really cause the most damage - sure getting the plant may give you a extra $400 or so, but taking out 3 of the other team could drop there team cash by a good $3-5,000 depending on how well they manage there money!
