Debate: Is having children selfish?

.. another question to throw into the many 100s of considerations, but a pretty important one to me considering the future ..

In terms of education these days, is it almost critical to adopt the previous american-ize logic of starting a college fund as soon as they're squatted out ?

I mean, the financing of education I can't see getting anywhere near the old positions of grant for this, grant for that, and a huge amount of students are having to both pay for the college/university aswell as living/board/expenses. (never mind the beer! - don't get a beer grant >.< ) Leaving with a small mortgage at the end of the full terms, with conditions obviously.

So in terms of thinking about what ur doing - fund as soon as they're born/pregnant ? In my mind it's vital.

Or try ur damndest to make sure they have no need for education ? :p

I love my kids to peace's even if i want to strangle my son ever time i see him lol ...

Nah would not change a thing for my kids no matter if 2 x were born with problems. This is life and its just hard.

The hardest thing to ever deal with this is not my kids but what others do to my kids. We (me and my misses) have had to deal with stuff that nearly put us both in a early grave but we carried on and stood up for our kids and will all ways do that no matter were it takes us. In fact being really honest it did kill me but luckily some one saved my life.

Love to feel proud. love to feel like my kids are happy, love seeing them smile. Hate getting my ass kicked by them on any game ... but that's life.

Without complications, getting pregnant is extremely easy.

One of the most important things ur allowed to do in life whilst pished.

you mean if i were to be drunk, fall onto a woman who was hot hot hot, get back up, fall back down, get back up and fall back down. All of this taking about 30 seconds to complete the "cycle" :p

i agree with what your saying here, if i ever end up having kids, i'll start something as soon as there born. I'm sure £10 a month for 18 years will be a very helping hand. (ofcourse not telling them about it). My sister has just given birth (im a first time uncle!) and she's set one up already.

Zomg ! 30s !

depends really... i mean if the mother is kinda insane and she wants like gizillion babies then i suppose its wrong. But then the babies that are conceived could have been lost so they keep on having them... its a tough one really.

But i guess we can't just count every lost embyro as a human because then we would have to like monitor every single time we (u know lol) and then even with 1 bit of (god its hard to be rude lol) only like 1 in million goes into egg, so lol its impossible to "save" every child. Spose the catholic church tries but fails to notice the scientific flaws in their methods of contraception.

Lol watch monty pythons "every sperm is sacred"

rant ends... lol

Selfish? Only if propagating the human race is selfish XD But no, in all seriousness, it's not selfish. Life is not a bed of roses, it's harsh and unfair in some instances. But at the same time there are so many rich experiences to be found and, well, experienced! Who are we to decide whether our children will enjoy the world we live in. They are after all an entirely new perspective. Heck, our children could be the instigators of the next youth revolution, just like your generation was. It's selfish of us, in my opinion, to presume that we can decide if our children would enjoy the world or not.

i would love to be able to bring up a child into the world i know and love, biking, computers, good movies, amazing music, but it doesnt happen...ill explain...

Kids...they dont care, theyre getting worse and they know this place is falling apart...

Me : Im no where near responsible enough to look after a child, i find it hard to cope with myself sometimes, and many people can vouch for that..

Some of the hell which has happened in my life, i would never wish for a child to go through, or any one else, even an animal, its the worst mental torment i can imagine.

Ive seen alot of things, its all too publicised, and peopl know it, people know they can get away with nearly anything. Its disgusting what you can get away with these days...

but then again,

Ive had some of the most amazing memories of my life which i think people should cherish...

I have the most beautiful girlfriend ever...shes amazing...feeling so attached with someone is the most perfect feeling in the world..

Ive seen some amazing things, ive watched some spectacular sunsets and rises in my time.

Ive tasted some god damn stunning food,

and met some of the most interesting people i could find.. (mainly you bunch of nuts and bolts)

So all in all, i think i sit on the fence...I wouldnt want a child, but then again, if a child can be brought up to love life and simply enjoy the simple things, then i think it should be a no brainer, at the end of the day, its all to do with the surrounding and circumstances, and i think its not taken into consideration anymore.

btw, my Girlfriend has a miscarriage last week... :(

Incredibly profound messages in there socks, some of those statements you would have expected to come from someone many years your senior.

My and my partner send our deepest sympathies to you and your girlfriend for your loss. Been through the same heartache and torment ourselves and it never leaves you though do believe me the pain does lessen with time. Keep marching on and things will come good mate.

All the best

lasher.

I'd agree with that, with the added statement of "as long as I/we can provide the stable and financial support it/they require".

Cos with all the love in the world, I don't wanna pay for every1 elses family.

Damn right Rast, hell i dont wanna pay for mine!

Seriously though, i know we should be in a caring sharing society.. i give to charities etc but i hate the thought that my taxes are bring up other peoples kids. ( or paying for their parents cider whilst they sit watching that Jeremy Klye fella on a 50" TV when the kids have no shoes and theres no carpet in the front room. ) Boils my urine.. it really does folks!!
