What makes me laugh is you can get 2 for $500 last I saw... Now if that was the UK price (£250 for TWO!) I'd be interested/sold as SSD's are too small and expensive.

not to mention the reports that there is a 1 in 3 chance of failures in the drives.
 
I talked about these on my podcast...

The ICEpak that it comes with I'm a bit worried out. Its all good and all that it is in a smaller form factor, but I think its nonstandard. Its 2.5inch, but with the standard height of a normal desktop drive. The ICEpak is needed to mount it properly in a case. The actually utility of it is for that, not for cooling...
 
tbh, they probably did it for both reasons.

see original raptors, they have a much smaller type of "ICEpak" on them.

also, remember, most 5'25 bays are metal, thus they will assist with the transference of heat.
 
I think the "ICEPak" casing is necessary, 10,000 RPM drives run pretty hot and making them smaller will only worsen the problem.
