So come on then, who is defacating in their breeches in anticipation for this one?

If you haven't heard of it where have you been? It has, quite simply, the best trailer ever on a video game !

Can't wait, really need a break from 200+ hours in L4D & 2

Have you not been following it dude? it looks better than the trailer. Even has some RPG elements in there (blatantly thieved from Dead Rising and FO3, though).

It's also far more melee based which is far funnier. Samurai sword in L4D2 = complete and total win

Absolutely nothing funnier than chopping one in half and seeing the two halves tip and fall hahaha.

I have 2 friends + me rounded up for the co-op, been searching for another hahaha, its gonna be great. I can get by on Killing Floor though tbh

Didn't like that. Well, I was prepared to give it a go but my mate threw a sulk and refused to play it

Been going through the hundreds of custom maps and campaigns for L4D and L4D2 for months now. some of them are frigging awesome

Crap, I knew I should have searched

I'll holler nearer the time man. I play with a guy in MD 24/7 so I'm not one who sleeps much.. Can get some co op on the go

See what I like about it is that it actually has a story, with interesting characters. It's not just a simple mindless hack through like L4D is. Which is fine of course.

It also looks, IMO, as good as Crysis 2.

Normally I wouldn't be a graphics whore, but the more realistic a game like this is the better IMO.

And I love the sound of the explore thing. L4D is amazing, but it is rather linear with arrows shoving you in the right direction and deep rivers there to stop you wandering off the beaten track.

Looks like complete win to me !

OMG @ lobbing the machete. Haha that looks immense fun

I thought crysis 2 is a badly coded piece of crap? Or have a read wrong?

You've read it wrong. I said it looks better than Crysis 2. Crysis 2 looks lovely, but is a poorly coded game. Crysis was even worse.

However, whilst you are here I will explain why.

Crysis. Terrible AI. "Die you American pig"

Good level design, plenty to explore.

Stupid alien levels. Same thing that ruined Far Cry.

A good suit. Armor mode worked very well and the suit allowed you to play through the game in different modes. For example -

"Balls out" mode. Use Armor and just mow down anything in your path.

"Sneaky barstitch" mode. Crawl around stealth undetected and drop a few claymores, and so on. It was kinda like how Fallout 3 is, giving you a few different play styles, that in turn would suit every one. However, due to the flaws above (and broken bits.. sec...) it was a flawed game.

The game was also totally broken when it was released. You get to the end, go into the ship, forget the TAC cannon and then run around on the deck, door locked behind you whilst some stupid bitch screams out USE THE TAC CANNON ! USE THE BLOODY TAC CANNON !

But you can't go back to get it, meaning if you don't have a save from before you walked out you're screwed. And you see, that's what happened to me, hence why I say the game is a load of buggy crap - because it is. Warhead on the other hand was optimised far better and ran far better with less flaws in.

Crysis 2 - Linear. As soon as you say the L word on a FPS now it's flawed. It locks you onto a certain path which is not something that fits into a modern FPS. The suit was urine weak, meaning its only worth was to use the functions briefly. This meant that it locked you into a play style, the one it chooses. Armor mode isn't worth a toss, so chances are you will spend an hour popping your head out of a car park shooting people praying you don't run out of ammo.

No saving. Good old console crap FTL. Can't save the game where you want to, only where it wants to. And saves are too far apart. For example imagine my annoyance when sitting perched on top of a car park for nearly a sodding hour taking out seemlessly no ending enemies, only to walk around the corner, discover another two hundred and then die, having to do it ALL OVER AGAIN. It's tedious and it's not fun.

So there. Nowhere have I said either are terrible games, just that they are flawed and in the case of the original just plain broken. I installed the first one again last year and all told after all the updates it took me about three hours to install. And when you couple that to how splendid Far Cry 2 looked (again, crap game, flawed, but graphically stunning) then there is no excuse for it.

Makes me LOL how Duke 3d got slated yet there was nothing wrong with it, yet when GTAIV and Dr1v3r were released they weren't even playable and scored 9s. Funny that !

I loved Driv3R

I don't even remember any bugs

But its quite easy to see the difference between well optimised games and the ones which aren't.

A lot of the time, the games with the highest system requirements are the ones which are poorly optimised.

Think Crysis/2, Metro 2033, I mean they look good, but they shouldn't need such high requirements.

Some games are really well optimised, and work beautifuly, with low requirements. Tbf a lot of the time, these are smaller games anyway.

Good example of optimization is MW2 and Black Ops, my old laptop could run MW2 fine, but Black Ops lagged like hell, and it looks even worse

Oh mate it was awful lmao. Collision detection was screwed and you could literally shove your car half way through a wall

That game caused wars. Basically Atari had threatened reviewers not to give it a bad review, and a journo I know slated it and lost his job. It just wasn't even a finished game tbh, a travesty if ever I saw one.

But its quite easy to see the difference between well optimised games and the ones which aren't.

Indeed. And it's a shame tbh. I mean don't get me wrong Crysis 2 is FAR better coded and cleaned up on a code level than Crysis was, but only in DX9. I doubt DX11 will be around long enough for any one to get the hang of. This stuff takes years to perfect man. Look at the 360. On launch it was cack. It couldn't even outdo a PC I had with a 5950 ultra, 512mb ram and an athlon running NFS : Most Wanted. The PC looked better and was smoother. Yet the 360 is now belting out games never thought possible. It's down to greed. Nvidia, AMD, greed. Pushing out all these new graphics cards and not giving themselves the time to get used to any of it. And the way the world has changed where games developers have realised how much money they can make for second grade crap and just started pumping it out.

Corporations ! gotta love em... Not.

Yup. The worst game I have ever owned for being a complete mess was STALKER. I mean it worked, and you could play it.. I think a review I read sums it up perfectly..

"It's a mess. A very pretty one, but a mess". Half of the ideas for it were locked down. For example the red storms in Pripyat were actually in it, but disabled because they didn't work properly. Cars were supposed to be driveable too, but were also locked out due to not working properly. It just goes on.. Basically THQ came along, bought up the company writing it and forced them to release it "As is".

On your last line? absofrickenlutely. Take one look at the EGO engine used in Dirt 2, Dirt 3 and F1 2010. They absolutely fly along on moderate hardware (even using DX11, FFS). Grid also. I managed to get that running well maxed out on a Radeon 1650 pro FFS.

And why is that? Codies man, they're British. They learned when the Sinclair Spectrum was around. Same as RARE. Look at the stuff they did on the N64 man !. Even shiggsy came up and said that they were pulling stuff that even he couldn't
ohmy.gif

Mind you tbh a lot of it is our fault man. When I was a kid a decent game would take years to come out. Things moved slower then, you appreciated what you had. There wasn't any of this game a week thing. You actually had time to buy them all
ohmy.gif

Now it's all wham bam thankyou man. Madness. That's what screwed 3DRealms. They thought they could sit back and take their time with DNF but didn't realise the world was changing around them. And not for the better either.

Indeed. I still remember firing up GRID over three years ago and being absolutely floored by how stunning it looked. Hopefully GRID 2 will be easier to handle. Very hard game was GRID and very unforgiving. Which is very realistic, but a bit too realistic for some
smile.gif

It seems that Dead Island has the graphics thing nailed. Of course, graphics don't make a good game but man, they sure help make a good one that bit better
