Dead 290x

Has anyone had a dead 290x yet?
Seems with mine, heat was an issue, I noticed the vrm's where getting to about 100 degrees (Vrm 1).
I was getting black screens every time I wanted to play games and now I've got a blue line right through the middle of the screen :(.

Thing is youll get failures with ANY product, Ive actually not heard about many of the 290 or 290X's going yet

Your right, I should consider myself lucky I lasted this long without having to try rma something.
Just hope its not going to cost a fortune getting it sorted out as was bought in the Uk and I live in Ireland. Will cost me about 40 to post it back to the uk alone.
Would anyone know what overclockers.co.uk are like to RMA stuff?
Edit:
I'm just glad it failed before the waterblock I ordered from them arrived (due to be delivered tomorrow) as they may have taught I caused it to fail by miss fitting the block or something. I haven't touched the card so at least can tell the cooler wasn't removed.

Don't think attaching waterblocks voids warantees. Or i guess its brand dependant?
On Sapphires site it says they are void if you remove the heatsink/cooler.
Also would anyone know is it sapphire I do the rma through or overclockers.co.uk? It was bought 2nd of November is that has any impact on it.

You RMA with OCUK - dont mention waterblock just make it look like its never been off.

In this case the waterblock hasnt even arrived yet, they have it in the post to me as we speak :P. At least might be quicker from them as emailed sapphire two days ago an no reply. overclockers are pretty quick when I email them :)

I saw on another forum that people who get cards with Elpdia ram seem to have problems with either dying, early or just giving black screens when you put the cards under stress.

Not all cards with Elpdia have problems though.

Hope you get it sorted soon though.

Is there a way to check its Elpdia without removing the cooler?
Thanks :)
Just wish I never sold my 2 7970's and gtx 670 right before christmas, now i'm without a workstation :P.
Would RMA take long for a card? Just wondering as cant be a month without a card and would have to order another one in the meantime.

Chances are it shouldnt take too long considering its a new series of GPU. When I RMA my first 560ti to my supplier, they tested it inhouse the next day and then notified me that I had a brand new one on the way as its quicker than fixing the faulty card. In total I had it in 4days

Seems you can find out by running a tool, but I don't want to link to it since I have not checked it for viruses etc.

If you use google you will find the forum and thread, but your card seems to have died from heat but could also be because of the ram issue that others have, but once RMA'd it might be worthwhile checking for that thread, in case you run in to any other issues.

As long as you don't break any seals, its as good as new.

Does anyone have any experience with dealing with sapphire for rma? Do they know how long it took? Just curious how long will take as overclockers sent my card to them on friday.

My Powercolor 290@290X died on me while benching, probably due to pulling 1.3v through it. Temperatures were in check, so I guess it's a matter of bad luck with some component not being in shape.

EDIT: RMA'ed it no problem

Hopefully, mine is as little hassle as that too replace.

Just an update on this, I sent the card off to overclockers and they responded very quickly. As soon as it was sent off to sapphire there has been no response back at all (waiting two weeks on replies from them on this and other issues now). I did a bit of research on them and they seem to have terrible support.
I decided to order another 290x and this time I switched to MSI as they seem to have better support. I ordered it from overclockers.co.uk as i'm more than happy so far with how they are dealing with it :). I will avoid sapphire in the future now (90% of my cards where sapphire in the last few years) Will stick with the likes of gigabyte, msi, evga, gainward, pny and kfa2 that have decent customer service and rma support from now on.

I have nothing good to say about sapphire unfortunately I've had cards brought to me with snapped PCIe slots even the power socket solders cracked off seems they use poor quality PCBs and solder.. I've not had the misfortune of dealing with their RMA procedure thankfully but I can tell by visiting their forums and Facebook page they are a company to avoid... for now at least.

I have to wonder was that the case with this one as it was overheating from the beginning and then just failed :(.
Hopefully the msi one is better and then can get a chance to watercool it :D
