Custom 3-pin y-cable

1st) I have no idea where i should put the thread in but here it is

Ok so instead of spending a load of money on a 3-pin y-splitter i thought i could ghetto mod one, but i am not sure if it would work



So would this work with my fan controller if i put all the red cables together and all the black ones?

It would work but you wouldnt be able to see what the RPM of the fans would be (yellow wire) if your fan controller has an RPM display.

If the blue header is hard wired into your fan controller i wouldnt advise cutting it up, id cut a female 3 pin off of an old fan/cheap/spair fan if you have one laying around and use that to wire the splitter up then just plug it into the blue connector.

The blue wire is an extender that came with my ZALMAN ZM-MFC1 Plus

If its just an extender than fair enough as there easy enough to replace if you decide you dont want it to be running a Y splitter anymore, yeah it should work fine to hook up the blacks to black and reds to red.

Each header will only be running at 4v at most if you plug 3 fans into that, some fans WONT start at that little.

Testet it, all fans start i i don't think they are only running at 5v...

2 140mm noctua and a bitfenix spectre wich will be replaced by another noctua

Molex gives out 12v, split that down 3x

They run via a fan controller that is powered via 1 molex and i currently have 5 fans connected.... wich means they shouldn't even be able to start... :S

But atleast it works

Wait no, ive just had a brain stutter

, voltage would be the same due to it being a parallel circuit, it would just draw more current... it will be running at pretty much 12v +/- a little that it can vary anyway.
