Is there really that much of a difference in DVD drives at the minute?
The reason I ask is both of my DVD drives are simultaneously dying and are silver drives in a black case (eww
). I was considering SATA as I have a spare SATA port, (but this could also be used for a vista drive). I haven't seen any benchmarks or performance reviews anywhere so does anyone know if it would be beneficial over an IDE DVD drive.
Also does anyone have a preference for a drive with a reason? I've always preferred LG drives as they seem to perform well but my housemate prefers Lite-On for the Lightscribe (which he's never actually used).
I've already decided that there's no need for two DVD drives as I don't copy DVDs or CDs for backup anymore (why when HDD space is so cheap and fast?). So for a single drive my question is; SATA or not, and why?
