CS Skinning Guide

Ok I know a lot of you play CS Source, and are interested by the idea of new weapon models, so I thought I'd make a quick guide to downloading and installing these.

Step 1: Download your skin. There are dozens of sites offering these, but my personal favourite is FPS Banana.

Be warned though, only download skins from reliable sites, as a lot of sites have HACKS bundled with their skins.

Step 2: Creating weapon skin folders. You can find your "cstrike" folder at X:\Valve\Steam\SteamApps\username\counter-strike source\cstrike

In this folder, double click on "materials", then "models" and if there is no folder called "weapons" in this folder, create it. In the weapons folder, create the folders "v_models" and "w_models".

Now go back the cstrike folder and open "models". Once again, create a folder called "weapons".

Return to the cstrike folder again and open "sound". If it does not exist, create a "weapons" folder.

Step 3: Installing your skin. This is simple. Unzip your skin and place the files in the folders specified by the readme file.

My favourite skins:

Bitchin' knife

Hardballers from Hitman 2

Cool C4

i've got a shedload of skins, i'll be putting together a nice pack for u sx'ers soon :) however i won't be adding creds :) mainly due to the fact it'l take too long...

if anyone is interested, please let me know :)

will include, models, with skins and new anims + sounds

new sounds for all guns

various map skins

t and ct skins

Depends what skins you use really. The guns are basically the same, they've just been giving a makeover. As long as you don't use the bright red and blue played models I don't consider it cheating.

I've done thr knife and it look SOOO much better than the normal knife.

I have actually been having difficulty joining some servers now. I even played against some bots on my pc and it always kicked me out the 1st time i try to connect! I used it in the clan match and i joined ok. Are the allowed in matches?

skins aren't cheating if it's just for looks, i mean there are some quality models out there atm, just cuz some people choose to put lazer dots, bright red/blue skins and stuff out there doens't mean using skins is cheating chaps. they can make the game look 1,000,000 times better, and the sounds, animations, models, everything.. i mean i've got some bf2 sounds in myn, and it suits it better, it's just customizing a game, and some of the models are beautiful!

for matches and stuff when fps counts and all that "no custom" rubbish comes into it, then u just pop all the folders out the way until your back into casual gaming, i find skins actually increase my enjoyment of the game, they just bring a higher level of detail than a 4k poly model can and i love them

It's pretty much just a case of going into a couple of folders and cutting stuff, then you can put them back in later if you want.

I personally use realistic skins like the AK I have now, where the reload is the same as in real life :)

Ok I've been downloading a few skins from here:

http://www.counter-strike-dl.com/source-skins.html

I've tried a few and these are the best ones, which are worth your time:

http://www.counter-strike-dl.com/download-924.html - Steyr Aug with double magz! He also spins the mag before putting it in.

http://www.counter-strike-dl.com/download-448.html - Scout with bigger scope and beefier sound.

What I have done to stop having problems joining servers is to copy a directory: C:\Program Files\Steam\SteamApps\(your username)

Mine was C:\Program Files\Steam\SteamApps\jiffz\ and then I created C:\Program Files\Steam\SteamApps\jiffz-models\ . I put all the new models in the 'jiffz-models' directory, and when I feel like using it I rename 'jiffz-models' to 'jiffz' and the original 'jiffz' to something else. I probably havn't explained this in the best way but if you have a look im sure you can work it out!!!

LOL I noticed some of those skins too! Pretty funny. I've skinned most of my guns now! I've even changed the voice comms.

Wooo my 1st reppie! :)

Davos mentioned a flaw in my plan - When you duplicate your user file, it's pretty large (about a Gig) and I don't know if this causes any problems for people without much space. Also, I'm not sure what happens when the game updates. I'll see what happens when the next update comes out with the new player models.....
