Electronic Arts and Crytek GmbH have announced that the latest installment in the fast-paced shoot-em-up Crysis universe, Crysis Warhead will begin shipping in September.

.

The Beta version was available to play at i34 last weekend.

I gave it a quick run.

I will be getting this title.

It has changed a bit from the original but from the limited amount you could see i think it has been a positive change.

I also heard that it is meant to have a more reasonable min system requirement now. Though we probably wont know for sure for a while.

worth buying crysis/crysis warhead?

Hey everyone. Iv just built my first system and originally wanted it for run of the mill stuff......that was until i saw vids for crysis and crysis warhead on IGN!

Looking at the system requirements and my own hardware, i wondered if anyone has any idea how playable Crysis is going to be. I know that right now my rig isn't that great (and not yet tried overclockin'), am i going to be disapointed?

Minimum Requirements

CPU: Intel Pentium 4 2.8 GHz (3.2 GHz for Vista), Intel Core 2.0 GHz (2.2

GHz for Vista), AMD Athlon 2800+ (3200+ for Vista) or better

RAM: 1GB (1.5GB on Windows Vista)

Video Card: NVIDIA GeForce 6800 GT, ATI Radeon 9800 Pro (Radeon X800 Pro for Vista) or better

VRAM: 256MB of Graphics Memory

Storage: 12GB

Sound Card: DirectX 9.0c Compatible

ODD: DVD-ROM

OS: Microsoft Windows XP or Vista

DirectX: DX9.0c or DX10

Recommended Requirements

CPU: Core 2 Duo/Athlon X2 or better

RAM: 1.5GB

Video Card: NVIDIA 7800 Series, ATI Radeon 1800 Series or better

VRAM: 512MB of Graphics Memory

Storage: 12GB

Sound Card: DirectX 9.0c Compatible

ODD: DVD-ROM

OS: Microsoft Windows XP or Vista

DirectX: DX9.0c or DX10

I welcome your opinions, suggestions and advice! Thanks!

Pete

Your rig isn't too bad. You wont be able to play with all the shines on, but it'll still be playable.

Yeh i did the requirements test on the EA site and it said i exceded the minimum level. Im an avid xbox 360 player and i dont wana buy a game if im not going to be too impressed with the graphics and gameplay.

I was thinking of maybe changing to a Core 2 Quad Q6600 or something to similar plus maybe another 2GB of RAM......

I can't say I've noticed the "optimisation" particularly. Before with an OCed Quad, I was getting a nice smooth gameplay (dunno the frames, but it was very playable), now, I'm getting more of the same, though its putting the overclocks on the GPUs through their paces...

Ide say overclock the crap outta your CPU, and buy a new GPU. Maybe a GTX260? or a 4870?

Yeh i thought overclocking might be the way to go, id have to spend over £100 for a Q6600.

Is it going to make a massive difference going from a GeForce 9600gt to a 4870? The 4870s iv seen cost around £180 (I apologise if im confusing people with pounds!). I just figured the money would be better spent on a cpu than on a new gpu.....

I reckon a 4870 will massively outperform the 9600GT, and crysis is a very GPU intensive game. However that cpu is pretty underpowered for crysis as well. Perhaps you should overclock the hell out of a cheaper dual core instead of the q6600. Ultimately its up to you because both will improve the gameplay.

If you overclock anything, try boosting that GPU, as it overclocks really well.

In terms of CPU bottlenecking, mine showed massive improvement from 3.2GHz to 4.0GHz so whatever you do there will be a noticeable difference
