Mantle Support coming to CRYENGINE.

Last night Crytek, the creators of CRYENGINE and the Crysis game series, have announced that they have struck up a partnership with AMD to add native support of AMD's Mantle API to CRYENGINE.

This collaboration will allow CRYENGINE users to take all the advantage of the Mantle API, without having to code it fully into their games themselves.

Crytek call this collaboration a "natural step" saying;

The Mantle graphics API offers breathtaking performance and unparalleled hardware control. We are proud to partner with Crytek to augment the award-winning CRYENGINE with these powerful new capabilities. Together, Mantle and CRYENGINE will represent a tremendous opportunity for game developers to easily prepare their studios for a graphics industry that’s rapidly becoming laser-focused on ‘closer-to-the-metal’ game development.

Our ultimate aim has always been to make CRYENGINE the most powerful, adaptable tool it can be for developers, and this collaboration with AMD is further evidence of that. As we continue to embrace the best technology available we enable all CRYENGINE users to create unparalleled gaming experiences.

So far the only Game which utilizes Cryengine and Mantle is Cloud Imperium Games' Star Citizen, which was confirmed at AMD's APU 13 last year. With this announcement we can expect many more games to run on Mantle in the future.

Mantle support on Cryengine can be considered a mayor win for AMD, add that to the Nitrous, Frostbite and Asura Engines, we can safely say that Mantle will continue to be supported by games well into for the foreseeable future.

I'm personally really glad to see mantle support coming to yet another big game engine, I imagine Crytek of all people can find great uses for the freed up CPU resources and lower level GPU hardware access that Mantle provides.

I also hope that this will mean Warhorse's upcoming Medieval RPG Kingdom Come Deliverance will be using Cryengine's upcoming support for Mantle, simply because more performance will always be a good thing, especially for those who cannot afford a high end system.

What do you guys think of Crytek's move here, are you looking forward to seeing what CRYENGINE can achieve with AMD's Mantle or are you more interested in how this will allow lower end systems cope with what famously is a demanding Engine to utilize? please comment below

This is pretty good news, if there is one engine where extra performance is needed because of it being so demanding it is the Cryengine.
Another good one for AMD as well, they have a few major developers on board with Mantle now, Crytek is another one to add to the list.

Good. It's nice to see that maybe mantle isn't as dead as I first though Although I kind of called mantle support for cryengine as Star citizen announced support for it ages ago.

This isent new news it was announced at the Mantle announcement back in November 2013.

No, that was Cloud Imperium modding support into cryengine, similar to how thief used unreal engine 3 for thief, unreal engine 3 doesn't support it but eidos Montreal modded support into it.

Read your linked article it even says that Crytek didn't say if they were supporting it yet.

Now Crytek is adding support naively to the engine, so devs do not have to do all the work themselves etc.

OOhh I wonder if it might be able to be incorporated into Mech Warrior Online as that would be freakin awesome if they could.
