Hummm, intresting lots of ppl have said that, as i was going to order the VelociRaptor this weekend, or buy another ssd, as my c300 is getting full...

I think that might be a possible alternative, cheaper too.

Thanks for heads up.

I was advised not to raid SSDs. Apparently it gets rid of TRIM, reducing the drive's life substantially.

From what ive read, i think there is a firmware update out now or coming out very soon to fix this problem.

Infact Intel have relased something...

http://www.bit-tech.net/news/hardware/2010/03/23/intel-releases-trim-for-raid/1

Just depends on weither or not the mobo is compatable with the update... and if its gonna be sata III compatable thats the question!

Anyway worth reading attached link above.

Whats that item that caddies an ssd on to a noraml HDD, turning it to hybrid? if you put hybrids in raid 0 would you have the same issue do you think?

I actually have one fo those hybrid 2.5 drives with 4gb onboard and its awsome bang for buck

I have them too, the seagate momentus XT 2.5" hybrid drive, they are good, i have the 500gb model

Just curious. Why ditch the 10,000rpm SATA III 600GB Vrap with 32Mb cache other than for sheer volume capacity?

u will gain zero benefits of it being a faster drive as regards to things loading mate as its going to be a storage drive so best to save money and get much much much more capacity for less, plus if u were to raid0 the F3's they would be faster

best to get 2 f3's for around £80 and spend that extra cash on a larger SSD if possible

Guys, guys, guys...

I think i might have mislead you [or something] i dont own a velociraptor yet i was pondering on get it for my storage drive.

The storage drive will be home to all my games, so i want it/them to be as fast as possible.

There are a few options;

- x2 Samsung SpinPoint F3 1TB [sata II] = £99.88 inc postage

- x1 Western Digital VelociRaptor 600GB {sata III] = £224.59 inc postage

- x1 Crucial RealSSD C300 128GB [sata III] = £219.59 inc postage

Which leads me to my first post on this thread.........! can you raid 2 crucial realSSD c300 128gb in riad0 using the sata III connection with my mobo [Asus Rampage III Gene Intel X58]. Tell you the truth i will proberly buy another one c300 anyway and just use them as separate drives 1 for operating system + general programs the other for games. Though the velociraptor does have 600gb and problerly isnt that much slower, hummmm....

So............................. can you raid 2 crucial realSSD c300 128gb in riad0 using the sata III connection maintaining the trim command etc?

Thanks again...

yes you can raid them, no you cant keep trim if you do, 2x1tb f3's will be better than a raptor imo, 2 f3's give about 210 MB/s average read and about 12ms seek, raptors are around the 100MB/s mark with about 8ms seek, for £200 you could allways get 4 f3's for the extra speed

yeah jarred is right no trim in raid atm with SSD's spend you pennies on the f3's and raid0 them and they will blow the socks off the raptor easily not to mention gives u 2 - 4tb of space so u wony have to worry about space fr a very long time

Yepp the sammys all the way dude.

Right now, the Trim command is not able to get through to the Raid Array, so you may just want to buy a single SSD and 2 of the F3's. That would make a great storage solution.

Hi guys quick question,

Regarding the seagate momentus XT 2.5" hybrid drive can they be raided in raid0?

Just one of these harddrives owns a velociraptor in nearly every benchmark if not all.

http://www.anandtech.com/show/3734/seagates-momentus-xt-review-finally-a-good-hybrid-hdd/2

So raiding 2 momentus XT 500GB would not only cost less than a velociraptor but also gives alot more storage too.

- x2 Seagate Momentus XT 500GB Hybrid [sata II] = £213.84 inc postage

- x1 Western Digital VelociRaptor 600GB {sata III] = £224.59 inc postage

I understand that theres a firmware update on the momentus XT http://seagate.custkb.com/seagate/crm/selfservice/search.jsp?DocId=215451 [firmware sd24] that has fixed all privious problems of freezing up the system on a regular basis, is this true?

However i did find this review http://www.overclockersclub.com/reviews/seagate_momentus_xt_500gb/4.htm which benchmarks the momentus XT in raid0 back in may 2010.

Anyway im thinking that the 4GB flash works exactly like the 64MB cache other HDDs have right?, it uses the 4GB as a rad cache and a 64MB DRAM cache as write cache?

Thanks again...

quick question as regards to the Real ssd 64gb. I have installed one on my Asus p5nd (crapy Nvidia 750i chipset) and I know the board is not well suited i.e. has no support for trim & has only sata 2 ports but sata 2 should be able to give me up to 300mbps and im only getting about 130mbps at best. Is this just a limitation of my board or is there something else going on? Crucial support were pretty useless can any one shed any light and save me some time please.
