Crossfire config.

Hey Guys, I am trying to set up 3 way crossfire on Asrock X79 Extreme11 with 3 x 7970's. Motherboard says to use slots 1,3 & 7. If I use slot Seven it covers all the front panel, Audio, USB etc. The board has seven slots all 16 x PCIe. My question is will it make a huge difference to performance if I use slots 5 or 6? Alternatively are there any "Right Angled" front panel connectors on the market? I have been searching Google all morning and can't find any? Any input will be much appreciated, Cheers

You'd need to read your board's spec and look at the bandwidth allocation.

It might not physically work as the lanes may not combine if you don't use the suggested ones.

I had an Asus MVA32-MVP which was a top end AM2+ board. It was quadfire capable with four 3870s for example but the lane allocation was quite strange. For example I had two 3870x2 in it with a 8800 Ultra for Physx and I couldn't get the 8800u to even detect unless I ran it as the board said to. Which like you wasn't possible due to space constraints. I'd have needed a case with space under the board between the PSU to fit it in (dual slot).

The board tells me to use slots 1, 3 & 7 As already said can not use slot seven as it obstructs all the ports on the bottom of the board, front panel, USB etc. It also states all slots will run at 16 x ? I have sent email to Asrock support but the last time it them 8 days to reply. Because of the PLX onboard chip is supposed to supply extra bandwidth I will try it out and see what results I get. I have been searching Google all day to try and find right angled connectors but no joy so far. I am a loathe to try different slots as it will affect my waterloop? Thanks for replying. Cheers
