What would be the best ram for this cpu Intel Core i7-950 Bloomfield 3.06GHz and possibly overclock to 3.66 Do I need to have a 2000mhz ram to get its full potential or a 1600mhz ram is more than enough to do the job?

Ram selection:

2000mhz http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231413

1600mhz http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231352 Very tight timing

What would be the best ram for this cpu

looks like ur askin for a brand mate, he directed u 2 other kinds the ones he said have been the speediest to come through for testing on here at both rated speeds your askin about

and there is clearly no need to get snappy after someone goes out there way to comment on your post

but ill +1 him and say that rams the best it can run at 1600 and 2000 so ur sorted out right there

It's only $149.99 after mail in rebate and I have heard nothing but great reviews. I just ordered 2 of those today

Also, what kind of cooler are you running? Those heatsinks on the gskill look huge so you may have trouble clearing alot of aftermarket cpu coolers.

Why there is no one answering me? What would be the best ram speed 1600mhz or 2000mhz....

G-skill (6-8-6-20) has a lot better timing than mushkin redline (6-8-6-24) and g-skill will run on 1.6 volts and Mushkin 1.65

In case you are wondering what case I will use:

I say the better choice is 1600 all around. I don't think you will notice any difference in 1600 and 2000 especially if your max overclock is going to be 3.66ghz. I may be wrong but I'm pretty sure your going to have to overclock past 4ghz for the ram to run at 2000mhz.

THANK YOU VERY MUCH !!!!

In case I would like to overclock my cpu up to 4ghz is 1600mhz ram speed is more than enough?

It's plenty

you will be very satisfied with 1600.

One last question:

What would be an ideal ram speed for an overclock 3.66 ??? I would rather have a ram that a cpu can use all the speed w/ tighter timings. I don't see the point of having a 1600mhz w/ a loose timings that a cpu can't use to the maximum speed...

Sorry dude, I just don't know anything about ddr3 and i7 cpu of how they work...

Bottom line, I want a cpu & ram with a 1:1 ratio if that would apply in ddr3 & i7 w/ a 3.66 overclock....

3.6ghz should allow you to take full potential of 1600mhz ram. You could probably get away with 3.5ish but I would say 3.60 or over would be ideal. Let me say I'm no expert by any means and I would actually like for someone else to correct me if I'm wrong. I would think this thread would have more comments, maybe post this in the memory/ram section of the forums. It could also be that your comment earlier in the post sounded kind of hostile towards AMDFTW. He was simply making a comment trying to help you. Most of the people on this forum are VERY knowledgeable and they know there shit. The Corsair Dominator ram are great, but in the last test I seen, the Mushkin kicked the Corsairs ass all over the place. Keep in mind TTL has always used Corsair Dominator ram when he test any product, and I believe he has already made the switch to the Mushkin ram. That alone made me go buy the Mushkin Redine, besides being rather affordable. Honesty I think you will be happy with what ever 1600mhz ram you decide to buy (assuming you did research and read reviews). I hope I've helped you and if not I'm sorry. Just remember everyone on this forum is here to help and the nicer and more patient you are with them the more help you will get.

Also let me add, most the information I have given you was from searching, searching, searching, reading support sites and reading reviews. I'm not anywhere even close to having the experience most the people on this forum have. I just seen you needed help and tried my best to give you a good answer. Don't hesitate to ask the Manufactures of the ram your buying these questions. A lot of times you find out how good there support is going to be after you buy the product by what kind of answers they give you or if they give you any answers at all. Ok I'm done lol
