CPU killing graphics

My CPU seems to be causing graphical errors when it's overclocked....everything (especially WoW) becomes unplayable if its above stock. It wasn't always like this, I can remember the exact day, time and game when it started doing this. The obvious solution is to just keep it at stock and that's what i'm doing, but i'm interested in HOW the CPU clock can cause so many graphical problems. Any takers?

System instability...

It's a tough one, but you're gonna have to start going through the ususal suspects 'til you find out what's up...

Common one, your display drivers could be corrupted...I've had that loads, esp when using higher fsb/htt...clean and reload your drivers for the card...

Cpu/Gpu temps could be an issue, make sure of what both of 'em are...

What are all your system specs, I mean voltages, settings, configurations, as much as you know, and what have you tried so far?

I agree with the gray man here.

Temps and/or PSU issues are the main things I would look at.

Easiest thing to do first is to uninstall and re-install display drivers, alos re-install the game too.

Think about what you might have changed recently that would cause such issues too.

When you have problems or issues, always best to post your system specs too, it helps identify the likely suspects.

minstadave is probably right

you need to check for a pci/agp lock in your bios

agp needs for be 66 and pci 33...

some mobos needs to set at 67 for the lock to take place...

basically your grpahics talk to the cpu and memory on the fsb so if that is sped up the graphics get sped up too

and agp cards really dont like having thiers buses changed

With my 'old' Asus I found if I pushed the FSB too hard it would cause exactly the problems you're talking about - as an added bonus, after one painful reboot it also took my copy of windows
