CPU 12V Connector

Hi all,

Okay I've posted this in my buildlog and on Linus Tech Tips but haven't got the response I need and I don't want to damage my rig when I power it on.

Basically, the CPU 8-pin power cable that came with my PSU does not match up to the pin layout on my board. The cable is split into two incase your board only supports a 4-pin setup. One half of the pin matches the pin layout on the board, the other half doesn't.

I've fitted the cable in, since it does fit and clip in place BUT I'm asuming your not supposed to do this? I can't think of why the cable doesn't match the board (pattern of squares, and squares with a more rounded edge).

PLEASE can someone advise, like I said, I don't want to damage anything when I power it up and I'm so close to finishing my rig now and this is a set back.

Are you sure you aren't sticking in half of the 8 pin PCI-E power cable ?

The cable has CPU written on it though, the other cables (think there are four) have PCI-E written on them.

There are two CPU cables (both identical pin layout). Why two?!

Mate there is no reason that a ax850 8 pin cpu power cable shouldn't fit in a G1 Sniper.. You must be doing something wrong !!

Do you have photos ?

Actually you have two cpu cables with the ax850, try the other cpu cable....

I keep thinking I' am but I cant think what, it's just a cable. That has CPU printed on it so what could I be doing wrong lol.

Both cables are identical lol.

Post a photo of the connector...

4 plus 4 pin = CPU power.

8 pin = CPU power

6 plus 2 = VGA

I'll take another one tonight, if I can get the camera to focus. There is one in the build log but it's not focused very well.

It's not fixed, it's not a tight fit. The actual pins are different shapes.

Basically the same issue. But like they say yeah it fits BUT they shouldn't why would Corsair mould the cable pins differently to how they are on a Motherboard? In that case they may aswell mould them all the opposite to the board for a laugh.

Hi mate
If you have like that split connector in the link you sent then it should be fine as the rounded corners should fit in a square hole as they also say in the link you sent. But it might need a little extra push. But if it dont send a pic on bothe how your connector looks like and the cpu pins on the motherboard.

Cheers, they do fit yeah the, I think its four pins (one half when split) don't match the CPU board pins but they do fit fine.

Thats all good but I do need to know if its safe and supposed to be this way, I take it each individual pin gives different power ratings so I don't want to power on the rig and damage it.

Looking at the images you have provided, it seems that 2 of the connections are wrong... I dont see this being a problem but also it wouldnt do any harm posting in the corsair forums or asking greybeard in the corsair support section of this forum for some advise before powering on your machine..
