Couple of questions about windows

Hi guys

I'm currently at college and have got myself a verified dream spark account through them. I can download software such as windows server 2012 r2 for free and was wondering if I could use it as a normal desktop os (like 8.1). I know it isn't designed for this but I mostly just want to try windows 8 and see how I get on with it.

I can get windows 8.1 pro off there for only £7.15 which sounds amazing. Has anyone had experience with this site before? They seem legit but I just wanted some opinions.

You can't get 8.1 through your dream spark account? That's where I got mine.

In regards to onthehub, looks like you only get those prices if your school participates. The sites I've seen that do this require a valid email from a supported school to get the pricing.

I can only get server and embedded through dream spark. My college doesn't have dream spark premium whereas the tech college next door does, which means they can get 8.1 for free.

I've looked at on the hub and my college is a participating one . I've read that if I got windows 8.0 off there then i can keep all of my installed applications and then go to 8.1 for free? From what I've seen if i go straight to 8.1 then i lose all my installed programs.
