Hi all,
I've literally just finished installing my new Corsair AX860i PSU, replacing my older HX750 unit.
So, the first thing I want to play with is the CorsairLINK software of course, cos it shows me STUFF my PSU is doing lol.
Anyway, after some Windows 8 wierdness (apparently that's what causes it) I now have my CorsairLINK 2 software showing me what the PSU is doing - this is up on my 2nd screen so I'm running benchmarks and the like.
So, I have two GTX 570's and I've powered them in the following way. I have ONE 8-pin (PSU) to 6+2 pin PCIe power going to the upper 570, a second going to the lower 570 - so that's TWO PCIe power cables from the PSU used so far. As there are no more of these single leads supplied with the PSU, I next use an 8-pin (PSU) to 2x 6+2 pin PCIe power - so this third PCIe power cable is split over two GPU's.
I think this is an ok way to power things, ensuring each GPU has it's own dedicated line, plus one shared line. So, THREE of my PSU's PCIe power connectors populated.
Now, going into the CorsairLINK 2 software, I see SIX PCIe Power readings shown, 1 through 6.
PCIe 1 - always shows zero
PCIe 2 - usually zero, but up to 12a during benching
PCIe 3 - ditto
PCIe 4 - usually 5-6 at idle, going up a little during benching
PCIe 5 - usually 6-8 at idle, going up a little during benching
PCIe 6 - usually 5-6 at idle, going up a little during benching
I expected to see one of two things.
i) Power draw from THREE PCIe only, as I only have FOUR PCIe power on my 860i, but only THREE are connected - I assume only the 1200i has the full six.
or
ii) Power draw on FOUR PCIe as the PSU knows one of my cables is split to go to two 6+2 pin - though of course my 570's only use 6 pins.
So, those last three showing power draw all the time sorta ties in with i) above, I just don't know why I get readings from two of the others as well during load.
The reason for this is because I'm trying to make sense of the real power draw of my PC and its components. I did a thread previously using my wall socket Power Meter to measure stuff, but that included my (external) loop, Monitor, Speakers, laptop charger etc. as well, so the reading was more.
Anyone who's gotten familiar with this software, well, do chip in as I'm confuzzled.
Btw: during some light benching - just using Heaven 3.0 - I regularly saw a reported 99% efficiency for around 400w load.
Once I understand what the software is telling me, I'll do some proper monitoring
