Corsair SP2500 - Amazing

Just bought a set of Corsair SP 2500's, absolutely blown away by the power and quality of sound regardless of volume, plus they look pretty sweet on the desk

Although one of my satellites needs to be RMA'd due to distortion regardless of what channel its running off I am still proud to own these. The sub is so punchy without the boomyness, love using late night mode, fantastic, and hearing so much more detail to the sound compared to my old Z623's which are on gaming duty on the 360.

plugged into the ASUS Xonar Essence ST they are just so crisp and clear and the house pretty much shakes from that sub haha. Heaps happy with em

Ok allow me to shed a little light to those guys who aren't really in the know when it comes to speaker selection. i am a professional musician with a lot of years experience when it comes to the production of music as I compose a lot of music as well as perform it and have worked infront of computer systems with a whole host of different speakers. if you are someone who is untrained musically but you are someone who enjoys listening to general music or gaming but wants a certain quality of sound then PC speakers are for you as 99% of them are engineered with certain features that create false overtones and undertones in order to create colour and effect. These are for the general user and the sp2500 are probably right up there to achieve that, but if you are a person with considerable knowledge of how sound works and how it should sound in it's purest form then you really should probably buy studio monitors. monitors produce what is called a flat sound that allows a lot more clarity to what you are listening to and is really for people who produce music, write music or people who analyse music in it's truest form. Now when it comes to price you will be amazed to hear that it's actually possible to pic up the parts or the whole sets of monitors for the price of a top end pc speaker set. if you want the very best sound then you will be spending a lot more. Lower end monitors produce a more true and clearer sound than PC speakers due to the flat sound. the best monitors you can buy come in wooden casings. PC speakers are plastic. Good companies don't make plastic speakers for the same reason steinway don't make plastic pianos so from a personal point of view I would always recommend studio monitors over PC speakers.

99% of the general public don't care. If it sounds good to them then they're satisfied. Though i myself have never heard any professional audio equipment in person so i guess i would be in the 99%...
 
as I say the engineered speakers are for the general listener and I'm not desputing wether people should buy them or not i just thought I would give people some helpful info if they are deciding on buying some speakers. I just thought sharing my knowledge of these things might be useful to some people. but i'm glad your happy with your speakers either way.

I completely agree with what you said...but I do think it's a little out of place.

The speakers are actually marketed to be 'gaming speakers'. They aren't meant to have a flat sound...because that's not really needed/wanted for gaming equipment. However, the fact that they perform as well as they do in music reproduction I think demonstrates how good a product they are. They aren't built to be the best flat sounding speakers ever, and you seem to be flaming them for not being, when they're never actually meant to...

Well i understand what you're trying to say but just to be literal... Aren't all speakers engineered? Lol:)
 
The reason I emphasise on the flatness of the sound is to highlight the point that the flatter the sound the more details will be heard, this includes gaming. there are details that will definitely not be heard on any current pc speaker system. I honestly don't mean to sound like i'm burning them I'm only explaining that monitors will show the tinyest details in comparison for a similar price. but then again alot of peoples ears are more accepting of the added overtones and undertones in the pc speakers so they may prefer that anyway. as i say i'm only sharing my knowledge of sound so people have a better insight to sound so they have more options if they know what both types of speaker are capable of. I actualy think the sp2500 sound pretty good overall. more knowledge to people gives people more confidence in what they are looking for. I apologise if you think i was burning the sp2500's or pc speakers in general but i assure you i was just highlighting a few points of interest to those guys in the market for new speakers instead of just going along with the title of this thread ( corsair sp2500 amazing).
 
haha yes all speakers are engineered, i was just referring to my initial statement about how they are engineered in a way to create added overtones and undertones lol sorry should have been more clear there lol

lol I should probably write a thread on the topic of speakers explaining all the pros and cons and different sounds and different engineering and uses and ways in which they are powered etc etc but I could go on forever so that's for another day lol. I usually come on the forums to ask advice on pc builds as it's a bit of a rolling education for me and also to look up people's projects to gain some inspiration but I thought as I'm here i may as well return the favour to people by sharing a little knowledge to others on the one thing thats usually considered after they have created their dream rigs. I'm currently building another rig for the 3rd time and have learned alot from you guys on the forums so when i get time will post an indepth thread on speakers and monitors to all those guys interested.

I'd actually be very interested in reading this, not saying im a audiophile, but i do like my audio to very clean and clear
 
I'd go with monitors all the way, I switched my sp2500's for a set of Bheringer MS20's a few months ago, and from music to gaming the sound is awesome. For what worked out to be almost half the price of the 2500's they were are bargain. As far as sounding flat goes yes and no really, with a decent soundcard, you have always got the EQ to sort that out. And regarding the wood factor I don't think as far as plastic goes it will never get close to matching the depth of sound that wooden cabinets can create.

I'd also be interested in what you would have to say , and like MrKambo I'm not a musician or audio professional .
I have a set of Klipsch 2.1 and I really like their sound , I thought about getting the SP2500 for more base but have been putting it off and still looking at other options. I'm not really into loud music any more like I was when I was younger, but I do like clean sound.

Ok i've written a bit about the different options of speakers to give a small insight into what's out there. with a little bit of history as well. I have tried to make it short as i can but i could of written an article 10 times the length so hope you all enjoy it.
