Corsair *Apparently* Being Invesitgated By The Trading Standards Agency

So I was chatting with an old school mate of mine today who works for the trading standards agency in the UK and we got on to the topic of computers and then eventually I told her how excited I was about the new RGB K95 coming out.

Now apparently because for the past year nearly every batch of Corsair K70's and K95's has had a LED die within a few weeks of being purchased/turned on which then leads on to more LEDs dying which in turn pisses off a lot of people because these things are not cheap.

You only need to look on the Corsair forums and every 2nd post is about a keyboard with dead LEDs.

Anyway I was told this because Corsair are *Apparently* knowingly marketing defective products, Even though Corsair say "Oh errr we didn't know errrr must of slipped through" and make up numerous excuses.

Just to note this has nothing to do with Corsairs customer service which are all amazing men and women and do their job superbly, This is more to do with the management side of things that are making some bad decisions.

So A LOT of pissed off people reported them and are now they are being investigated by the trading standards agency.

I hope something comes out of this as I myself have gone through 3 x K95's all with various dead LED's ranging from the macro keys to the numpad keys and I take care of my stuff i.e non static environment, Very clean etc...

I know there will be certain people who say "Well I've had mine for ages and it works fine" well to you I say GREAT, I'm happy that you got a good one but the majority of people haven't.

Disclaimer: Only passing on what I have been told.

Eh. Excluding their psus I've never been overly impressed with corsair. They have set the modern standard though.
Do you have a press release/anything else to back this up? You know, for clarification etc so no one ends up in trouble :P.

How on earth could I have a press release if I was talking to my lady friend who I got this info from

The only way I could back my conversation up is my going back in time and video recording my face to face conversation ^_^

As far as I'm aware the investigation is not common knowledge or widely known about but then again not a lot is in the tech industry i.e behind the scenes stuff etc...

A press release will probably get released in the coming weeks I'm hoping :)

And no one is going to end up in trouble for simply repeating what they were told ;)

Tell that to Mr Snowden

Haha ^_^

Well he leaked top secret confidential information and went to another country, Just going on a forum and saying "Hey guess what I heard about a company that make fans and keyboards" is quite harmless :p

This makes me sad, I've always been so fond of Corsair!

But in saying that Poor form for cheaping out on the LED's. The difference between the quality of Cheaps-Average-Expensive LED's is huge.

I know of a company here in Aus that manufactures Emergency and Exit lighting.

Their LED Exits Lights (10watt tube was the former standard) look great when you first fit them, the LED's look as bright as the Sun. Go back and look at that light 6 months later and you'll struggle to tell if it has power to it or not.

I bought some Phobya Flexlight High Density LED 60cm Strips UV i got 3 or 4 all of them out of the pack had deads.

Just thinking actually, I wonder if they are using the same LED's in their Fans? Or if they are from the same supplier?

Nothing is concrete yet this is just what I've been told but 1 thing I know to be fact is that within the last year the amount of people with dead LED's on their K70's and K95's is horrendously huge, It's all down to 1 thing, Not having any proper ESD *Electro static discharge* protection for the LED's.

Considering my ol' Microsoft Sidewinder x4 never had an LED go in it its obviously not a price thing. Its pretty much just a corsair thing.

Well according to the people I've spoken to *And my own experience* it's 2 brands that suffer badly from this and it's Corsair and Roccat and funnily enough both companies ESD shielding is quite bad and from what I was told about Roccat they get their LEDs from the same place Corsair do in Hong Kong i.e cheap crap.

I've had LEDs die on my K95 and I cba RMA'ing because it's likely the replacement will suffer from the same problems. I'm just going to stick it out with my K95 and probably buy a Ducky sometime next year.

I'm still rocking an original Logitech G19. Works great.

Edit-
I don't understand the fuss about mech keyboards. Nor do I know the difference between Cherry Red/Blue etc.

Cases, cooling and PSUs are fine. Their peripherals don't appeal to me at all.

You may have just gotten your lady friend into trouble. If there is no press release that means it is not meant to be public so the investigated can't cover things up. Leaking it is obstruction of justice.

Completely wrong Seekax,

Obstruction of justice is an attempt to interfere with the administration of the courts, the judicial system or law enforcement officers, including threatening witnesses, improper conversations with jurors, hiding evidence, or interfering with an arrest.

And by "Leaking" this all I am doing is making people aware that Corsairs peripherals need further refinement, Nothing more.

Ya my sidewinder has its LEDs always on, for the better part of a year and a half. Really just a QC control thing. Besides if they know the LEDs are bad and they mark the price so high its pretty much them making a huge profit. Buying the worst LEDs and then charging so much for them. Good thing i never liked the corsair bandwagon much. I'm sure any big business has done this at some point with a product. Just corsair got caught.

Well they haven't been caught, They are being looked at, Nothing more nothing really "official" for the time being they are being watched which in TSA terms means nothing will happen and this will be forgotten about and will never be officially mentioned, I hope not though.

Tbh Corsair cases never feel that well built as I expect. Maybe I was expecting too much, idk.

The only cases that to me feel like your getting what you paid for that come with that amazing quality feel are the Caselabs cases, Yeah sure they are really expensive but you get what you pay for and the rest of the cases out there i.e Corsair, Silverstone, CM Storm, Coolermaster, Antec etc... all feel too plasticy and cheap considering how much they charge.

By making this information public you are giving Corsair the chance to cover up, which in turn means you make the job of the investigators a lot harder, i.e. obstruction of justice. You are giving away confidential information, just because leaking shit is the new flavor of the month doesn't make it legal.

Again no it isn't.

Dude you don't know what your talking about, No offense mate but your talking complete rubbish.

Corsair have been told by many other people that they have been reported to the TSA so this is nothing new.

So because lots of people do it makes it legal?
This is a pretty small leak, so nobody cares about it, especially because you have no reliable source or evidence to back your claim. If this had been a more serious case this would be an offence. Even though most people think for some reason what snowden did was legal, it wasn't. Doesn't matter whether it's morally correct or not.
