Corsair AX850

Hi there people !

I need a little bit of help as im having a problem with my AX850, its the 3rd one of these PSUs that ive had that has lasted about 6 months and started giving me this problem.

The problem im having is when i turn the power switch on at the wall for my computer lights normally light up on the motherboard and then i'll press the power button on my tower and off i go the computer starts up, but yesterday i went through the same routine and the lights took about 20 - 30 secs to come on so i could then press the power button on my computer and power it up as ive said about this exact problem has happened with the previous 2 AX850s which each lasted about 6 months before having this problem very much like my current one seems to have lasted. In the past when i have replaced the PSU with a new one everything is fine for a while anyway.

Any idea people ?? as im really tried of having to pay £40 quick to RMA these so called "gold standard" PSUs back to corsair !

a couple of members having PSU issues have come to find out the GPU is
causing the fault. what kinda system specs do you have?

airdeano

If 3x a Corsair (especially a AX850w) PSU goes ,
then I would seriously start looking at other hardware parts !!

Like the good man above me said....

well the computer just does not start up at all now just like in the past ! i never do turn it off at the back of the power supply so would'nt know but id expect it would have been the same result.

My systems specs are in the little CPU Z validator box,

how can i work out if its anything to do with the other parts tho ??

Every time ive put in a new PSU its worked perfectly fine again ! i thought at 1st it was the mother board but ive changed that and still get the same problems.

I have 2 560 ti's in SLI

Problem now is that i can not test anything out as the thing wont start up at all for me :S

i also thought that ! but ive got it plug in to a gold standard surge protector as i was worried about that after the 1st time it happened it could be my flats crap elecy supply !

What mobo do you have dude?

edit:

also whats the problem other than taking longer for the lights to come on?

Im having a similar problem now mate. In the end what ever it was killed my motherboard and I had to RMA it. This is the 3rd PSU I've had as well all have been AX series corsairs. I cant believe that all 3 of mine are dodgy either. Do you get a buzzing when the PSU is under different loads?

nope no buzzing noise ! just out of no where there would be a power delay from the PSU to the MB ... which would get longer and longer until it would not work at all ! every time ive put in a new PSU its lasted 6 - 8 months then same again !! feel sick at the thort it is my MB as its a right pain in the ass to take the system apart !

Yeah your right mate. Im getting exactly the same issue apart from im not changing my PSU I've changed my MB but the same is starting to happen again. Its as if the PSU is killing the MB for me or it could be the other way round. Cant really tell. Before I sent my MB off I tried it with a different PSU and got nothing out of it and overclockers were quiet happy to send me another MB so it was definitely dead. I cant wait to get the bottom of this.

yeah ! same here as if it carries on like this it wont be long until we start getting NO RMAs :S never in my life had this many problems with a system build ! let me know if ya find out the cause ! i'll do the same ! working on another RMA with corsair im told i wont have to pay for it this time as ive had more than one :D

if only it was that easy hey !! gonna sort out the RMA 2moz ! gotta call corsair via skype to sort it out :S dunno why it cant be done via email i really dont !

I have to admit I would prefer to talk to someone on the phone. Can ask questions and get it sorted quickly.

I spoke to a guy in my local computer shop today and he said do a memtest. See if that brings up anything. He also mentioned that the corsair ax range are very sensitive to what he called "dirty electricity". I wasnt sure what that meant so I can only assume it electricity that is into BDSM or something. Anyway he suggested to get a proper all singing all dancing gang lead to filter all this "dirty electricity". I think TTL uses one for his server and he has just got one for his Orca build. I think I will be investing in one anyway as I know that the electrics in this house are pretty bad. Hope this helps.

It sounds like your local PC guy was telling you to get a surge protector, whereas you're now thinking of getting a UPS. You shouldn't need a UPS to safely run a PC.

I have a surge protector but doesnt that just protect against surged and not clean up all the elelecticity that comes in. He also mentioned that they cost around the 150 mark although he doesnt sell them . I have to admit, with all the dodgy electrics in this old house, it does sound like a good possibility.

I take it back he probably was talking about a UPS.
