Corsair AX 860i enough?

Hey guys,

So I'm putting together a new rig at the end of the month and wondered if the AX 860i is sufficient or if I will need the 1200i

CM Storm Trooper case (just stock fans)
Asus Maximus VII Formula
Intel i7 4790k with Noctua U14S - Will probably do a little overclocking.
Corsair Vengeance 16 GB Ram 1600 MHz
2x MSI GTX 780 Ti - Probably won't overclock beyond the factory OC specs.
Samsung 850 Pro 512GB
3 x 2 TB WD Green HDD's (might need more)
Asus Xonar D2X Sound card (might just stick with the onboard on the MB ).​

Yep, easily.

According to AnandTech's Bench, a system with a pair of GTX780 Ti's will draw 652 watts at the wall at max load. A quality 860 watt like the Corsair, will be able to handle that with absolutely no issue at all.
 
I can confirm from my own testing with two reference 780's and two overclocked 780 classifieds that will definitely be fine. I would say the estimate of 652watts is spot on for a mild overclock running furmark or something hard. While gaming i'd expect to see it peak at around 550 so you will have more than enough headroom for your PSU to operate comfortably.

Have you thought about the AX860 not 'i', it's often a little cheaper, doesn't spin the fan on boot (annoys some) and doesn't have all the Corsair Link stuff. I definitely would recommend the AX860, it takes about 30 minutes of raping it before the fan even turns. I do concede however the fan grille on the AX860i does look a little slicker.

Worth looking at the Corsair RM's, I've got the 850 and the fan almost never spins.

Also the 1000w is cheaper than the 860i & 860 and is fine if you don't want to use corsair link (The RM version of Corsair link is crap compared to the AXi's)
 
I'm torn between the 860i and the 1200i myself, seen a fair few reports of coil whine and strange ticking in the 860i model though, how's yours Dicehunter, any issues?

My first 1 was utter balls so if you can go for the 1200i as they have far less issues, My current one which is an RMA *touch wood* has no issues at all but my first one sounded like a Cucaracha paty in a can lol

One thing to note this is a Corsair heavy forum so you will get a lot of bias because of that, If I was buying right now I would have no hesitation of getting a Superflower PSU, They are among the best in the industry and actually make a lot of the big name PSU's while they *the other companies* just stick their own sticker and design on the shell plus most of the worlds top overclockers swear by them and when it comes to power draw and reliability those are the guys to listen to -

If this Corsair PSU starts to whine again I'll get an RMA through and get myself the SuperFlower Leadex Platinum 1000W Fully Modular "80 Plus Platinum", One of the best PSU companies out there.

I had a 1200i... Till i had a leak and well it went bang. And jesus was it loud! But up until then is was amazing never skipped a beat. I always liked the "self test feature" if you were fault finding and issue it was great to make sure your PSU was working.

Since i decided the 1200i was OVERKILL and i was pretty broke at the time, I dropped back to an AX860 (NO i) and it to hasn't skipped a beat. But in saying that i haven't had any leaks :-P

Quality wise Superflower far exceed anything Corsair has as they are purely a PSU company that makes other companies their SKU's were as Corsair is quite spread out across many products ergo they have a lot of faulty products compared to other companies.

An example, In all my time since I was 13 now when I started playing with rigs, I have had more Corsair RMAs in the past 3 years than anything else and I am 28 now now so that's saying something about Corsair, Good intentions, Good looks but poor overall quality.

Yeah, I've been considering the Superflower, really not a fan of LED lighting though, silly issue really, but Ive read a fair few reviews and there clearly a fantastic OEM, comparable to Seasonic. I'm not planning my build until the release of a Haswell-E and still have a few things to sort/learn, so I've got a bit of time to decide anyways. The AX1200i's still an option, but it's massive overkill for what I'm planning.

A friendly word of advice bud, Go with what the top overclockers use, None of them use Corsair, Nearly all either use Antec, EVGA or Superflower, And EVGA's top end stuff is made by Superflower ergo reliable.

And as far as the LED's go, Just consider them a bit of free bling :)
 
Exactly, even in SLI, I'd only be nudging 600-700 watts, half it's capacity, but that could be considered a sweet spot.

Corsairs AXi's are made by Seasonic arnt they? AX's made by a different company again (can't remember who) i just remember that they arnt manufactured by Corsair themselves.

Nice to see someone is finally recommending them who isn't me ;P. EVGA psus are superflower ones and can be cheaper as well.
