I was orginally going to get a new mobo and i think i still might but i wondered if my DS3 will work with a quad core.. My mobo is the first revision i think.. the first DS3.. so im not gettin my hopes up..

Well it can support quad core with a bios update how do i update the bios? like download each one at a time or can i just go ahead and download the one that i need?

Another question is it worth gettin the Q6600 or the E6700?

Go to gigabytes web page, download the latest bios, stick it on a usb stick, look in your manual for instructions but for my mobo i just had to press alt + f2 during boot up - took me straight to a menu, selected the bios file, bish, bash, bosh - job's a good 'en :)

So after this bios update, if i purchase my quad core cpu and the mobo dosent work with the cpu will it simply not boot? or do i risk damaging components?

I think im probably best off buying a new mobo and then saving up for the quad core. lol..

wtf..

why would u get a new mobo? yours is perfectly fine man..

just update the bios and you will be fine.

and why on earth would u get a e6700? just OC yours to 3.2 and your set dude, honestly..

I shall i just have never tried to o/c before.. and.. dnt wanna brake anything lol.. :S hah.. i have no idea where to start either..

Overclocking that CPU to 3.0GHz is pretty straight forward, just set the FSB to 333 and Bob's your uncle (may need more volts but if the Vcore is left at auto that should do tthe trick).

The only real problem with this is the heat, but looking at your watercooled rig it should be ok!
