Computer making a creaking noise!

Hi guys, my pc, when powered on is making a really weird creaking noise.

I have checked all my fans to ensure cables are kept far away.

I sounds like a fan hitting a cable, but i cannot be sure.

When i turn the case on its side to investigate the sound disapears.

Sorry for my vague discription, but it is all I can think of.

Any ideas? I am planning to take a closer look when i power off the machine for the night.

Thanks jedd.

I will try and capture a recording of the sound for you jim.

I will also report that when I place the machine on carpet the sound disappears so i think it is a rattleing mounting or similar.

could be vibrations going through the case. Perhaps hard drive or fans

Take the side off and narrow it down

Could it be a cable getting into your PSU fan from inside the PSU? I sometimes have that, a fairly hard pat on the top of my PSU always solves the problem.

How loving I am towards my PSU ^^

check your fans to make sure there no unballenced by dust or that the bearings arnt going

I always do that by just keeping my finger against the center. They will stop rotating, but make sure to help them make speed again if they are not on 12V :P Especially with your CPU fan *whistle*

Also, have you thought about the fan on your graphics card? *does not know which card/cooler you have*

Fixed the problem, was a cheap pci slot fan i bought to provide a bit of extra cooling across my passive 8500gt. Seems the bearings were not designed to last all that long :P

I'll be picking up a 4870 fairly soon so its not really an issue :)

Hmm is the 8500 the lowest card? If so you could put a spare 80/92/120mm fan on a few pieces of packaging material at the bottom of your case blowing up. Did it with an S-flex 800rpm on my overclocked passive EAH3450 and it lowered the temps by quite a few degrees.
