Comparing water loops

I won a watercooling kit the other week (Thanks OC3D and WCUK!) and set it up...its pretty basic, I got cold feet and chose not to stick it on a GPU.

My original loop:

XSPC 120.2 with 2 Thermaltake fans

DD TDX block with custom 775 hold-down

Hydor L30II

Nescafe jar res

1/2" tubing

My new loop:

XSPC 12.1 with a XinRuilian

XSPC X2O CPU block

Some very modest pump/res combo

10/8mm tubing

Load test:

F@H 100% Core 1

Spi 32M Core 0

Results:

The 2 loops were within 2 degrees of each other! (My original loop edging out the new one)

Possibilities:

thermal paste was non-ideal on my original loop

The XSPC block >>> DD TDX

120.2 rad is clogged up with a load of junk

Lesson: Dont write off the cheaper gear on the market, and keep your loop clean!!

Good advice for all Kenny, keep the loop clean and flush the water system at least twice a year for optimum performance.

Original loop: Changed the Hydor L30II to an Alphacool 720LPH...temps rose maybe 1-2 degrees

Changed DD block for an XSPC... temps dropped 8 degrees.

Ayyyeeeeeee DangerDen just got their ass handed to them on a plate by a block that cost 1/3 the price.

That's good news for me as I have one of those blocks :)

I am using a TT generic all copper thing right now - but those sort of temp differences are hard to ignore ;)

Cheers Kenny
