The final part of the battle at about 32 minutes in.
The artillery must have done massive damage to the morale and the physical well being of the infantry - it's dead quiet and my platoons have managed to squeeze the remaining Soviets into a tight pocket. The rest of them have routed and fled. I can see now from the recon that my enemy is in fact a Crack Soviet cavalry detachment - chances are they were a reinforced Platoon with armour. They were readying defenses as my Company stumbled across them.
As I advance my remaining squads I pick up in my sights inidividual men from broken Soviet defenses. A machine gun team has broken and has fled. I shoot the last man in the back as he runs. They are scurrying to get off the map as fast as they can.
A lone remaining infantry man from a crack Soviet Pioneer Platoon flees under a stream of bullets and shells. These were his last moments
A couple of turns later and there is a cease fire declared. The Soviet defense has been probed and broken. Huraah! It was a Minor Victory for the Axis forces, with heavy casualties sustained on both sides.
As you can see from the above, I started out with 149 men in an above strength Romanian Ski Company. 32 casualties were sustained of which 9 were Killed in Action - and 5 were AWOL (I saw them run off the map). This leaves 18 incapicitated or injured at the time of battle. The majority of casualties were from 2nd Platoon.
The Soviet Cavalry Pionner Platoon (possible) started out with a much smaller force, although the starting number is not officially shown due to the fog of war elements in the game. It is likely to exceed 100 men, all things considered. 31 casualties were inflicted along with 8 KIA. At this point I cant determine further statistics other than what is shown. I knocked out a vehicle and a SU76 tank destroyer that much is sure. I also know for a fact that several squads/elements fled the map.
So this concludes a minor nations skirmish - I hope you all enjoyed
2 minutes to set up and 32 minutes to play. A great game.
