hey guys im currently ordering my noctua fans and i hate the colour of them can i just detach the 2 fans from the d14 and then spray paint them a different colour? or would that void my warranty? Im ordering 3 fans plus a the d14

i think it does, there are videos on YT and a couple of posts on how to do it. Mainly you void the warranty is by removing the sticker at the back.

I HAVE to warn you to do a proper job or you will have fins which are more heavy than others.

Maroon is not my fav but they give the extra "i paid for these!" look, like an orange lambo

if you change the colers of the blades you will lose your warrenty,as you have to take the sticker off the back, unless you no what your doin then there is no point mate

what i would do is try a couple of runs with a 2$ fan, like a case fan, see if you do a GOOD job.

ergo no spills, drips etc and an even coat.

but in all honesty for the price they have, i would leave those fans alone. here in switzerland we get a fan for around 40fr. get 5 of those + 100fr of a cooler and your looking a pricey thing. (dollar to francs is almost 1 to 1).

but IF you know what your doing, go ahead! make a log and post it on this site, but if you're not called Tom and you don't do it often i would leave the modding alone

I have a family friend who does panel beating and and spray painting cars, hes gonna paint the raven some sort of silver. I wanted a colour that shows class. like a shiny aluminium look I think I should just let him do the fans I will put up pictures of the process

Just stick with the tan and brown. Prove you are devoted to cooling and not looks.

There are still a lot of people that are into case modding , bit of a silly comment IMHO..

unless you are not serious of course

It's already been discussed here but I will raise the point again. Painting fans adds weight, can cause unbalance and will change the characteristics of how the fan works. The blades have been designed to have a certain texture in order to catch the air and push it along. Spraying on a layer of paint will fill these textures and mess up the airflow.

Noctuas are not cheap. Once you paint them you pretty much ruin them and TBH they're not what you would class as high performance any way. So it would be better just to buy coloured fans that you like the colour of in the first place rather than spending a fortune and buggering around ruining what the fans were designed to do.

Just my 2p worth.

"The next step is to sand the fan down and prepare it for primer"

FAIL

That's EXACTLY what I have been talking about. Doing that destroys the textured surface of the fan and pretty much changes how it was designed completely.

P400?!?!?! Jesus tapdancing christ.

Lol i never said it was a good idea just helping people who wish to destroy their cooling capabilities... tbh at the end of the day there isnt a wide variety of coloured fans. Most are colour by leds so the bitfenix spectres fit in that category....

Im not sure if anyone has used these before but xilence red wings do an excellent job, my friend has some and they look sexy. http://www.ebuyer.com/product/138586

They are silent, pull some moderate air and are cheap!

EDIT****

The cooler-master sickle flows look pretty sweet as well if you would like your fan to add some colour to your case.

Sorry mate that's wrong. Enermax do an enormous range of fans in pretty much every colour you can imagine. Chrome, copper, red, blue green white clear ETC ETC.

You obviously haven't been looking hard enough. For example yesterday I wanted a clear fan with white LEDs after an idea I had. Into google, changed to shopping, sorted price low to high, £4.99 delivered for a Xilence clear fan with white LEDs.

Every single one of these fans work out cheaper than Noctua. Noctua are pretty much the most expensive fans on the market today which then begs the question why? Why on earth would you want to spend £20 a fan on each one and then have to paint them?

And you know why the bloke in the video is a failmuppet?

Honestly what a complete knobber deluxe. £4.95. I bet he spent that on each can of spray he got

Yeah soz i obviously havent! I may need to have a look out for them... hmmmmmmm

Exactly! Tbh I believe noctuas fans are a bit of a waste of time unless you have millions to spend and want the best of everything! I dont disagree with TTL's love for their heat-sinks, but again a bit pricey!

I have not yet tested my Utgard as im waiting till i get all my bits! But i like the fans.. my only problem is i think they would look better with orange leds to match the blades instead of white... so was planning as a future upgrade to get some fans with orange LEDS... i like the black and orange look... its niiicee!

* back to the topic of fan painting! Its only worth doing if you want looks not performance.. in which case by the cheapy £1.20 black fans! As i highly doubt their designers have taken any thought on performance!

***EDIT****I like the look of those magmas... very similar to Xilence Red wings!

Well Noctua are expensive for a reason. The fan itself is incredibly solid. The motors are long life and heavy, the wires are perfectly braided with expensive rubberised braid that resists heat. The colour? IMO it doesn't matter one jot. If you care about quiet and you care about quality (I'll cover airflow in a sec) then the colour wouldn't put you off at all. It certainly didn't put me off from spending £80 on fans.

Cheaper fans can match the airflow of a Noctua. They're not high performance they're quiet. This means tight fitting motors, close tollerances on the motor gap to prevent any vibration or movement (cheap fans constantly need pressing back into the motors) and so on. The same DB and CFM can easily be achieved on cheaper fans but you sacrifice quality.

I mean, sure, Noctua could go ahead and produce tons of different coloured fans. But, I think they know as well as any one who truly 'gets' them that it isn't necessary. It's kinda like early Saabs. Absolutely ugly as sin but people did not buy them for the looks. It was all about engineering and quality.

Yes you are right! IMO i would love to kit out my rig with noctuas but i cant afford to.. I believe their next step is to introduce cases with their fans fitted. Cases that would suit the colour scheme and have maximised case airflow! NOW that would be something TTL MUST REVIEW.... if said event happens...

just to clear up the warranty issue, if you modify a product in any way, painting, sanding, removing a molex to braid a cable etc... even if you do not remove a 'void if removed' sticker...you'll lose your warranty as the goods have been modified and therefore no longer conform to the warranty stipulations as set by the manufacturer as it has been altered from it's original state.

Give it a week or two and I will be selling mine. Obviously I can't list them before I can actually send them out but I will have.. Let's see..

Two 140s, a 120 and a 92mm fan.

Because they're not the sizes I need. My case needs two 200mm (one I had) and a back fan that's 120.

140s simply don't fit in there and I got a LED one for the back..

Any way, they should go up within a couple of weeks. Sorry for the thread derail, if ness please delete this post

Those noctua fans are a very light colour. being into some RC car modding. I can tell you that keep your rattle cans away from those fans and instead get some of this.

RITPD--30.jpg

A good place to get it from is here http://www.prolineskates.com/acatalog/Accessories.html

It comes in all sorts of colours. and is so easy to use a child could do it. Basically by a cheap pan for couple of quid. boil up some water. stick in a bit of salt. Then add the dye, be it the powder or the liqued. (liqued variant tends to give a slightly smoother colour) but the powder gives an excellent finish as well.

Then just stick in the fan blades and the fan casing (with the motor removed obviously) And let it soak up the dye.

The longer you leave it the darker and more vivid the colour will become.

Doing it this way instead of painting means that you are not adding anymore weight to the fans them selfs by painting them. and you are also keeping the exact same texture as the fans originaly had.

because of the light color of the noctua fans, you can get away with pretty much any colour for the surround, and just dye the darker poo brown blades black.

you can also mix the dyes to make your own custome colours.

Quick example ugly grey traxxas chassis. (ignore the carbon fibre I converted it to a mid motored car for better handeling lol)

10 miniutes in a pan and you get sexy sleek black chassis.
