Well this is what lay before me after removing my heatsink after following the instructions on the AS5 website...

Not the best of jobs...

Also the bottom of the heatsink...

Oh dear...seems ive found the cause of my high temps :(

So after some treatment with some lovely Arcti clean (i highly recommend it, smells nice too!) i got my heatsink looking like this...

after a blast of air through the fins for good measure

and cpu looking like this

Nice and pretty again

And the paste spread across just enough that one more movement would show a bare patch of cpu nakedness:

The zalman was, annoying to say the least to refit due to its awkward mounting process which almost shifted the paste beyond uselfullness but temps have so far dropped 5C at most cases...remember the burn in period :) should drop another 2C over next couple of days :D

I recommend this to all users out there having temp troubles... ;)

I still use the rice grain technique under most circumstances. Usually because I can't be arsed to find something flat that I wanna get AS5 all over.

ya i got same hs that thing can be a royal pain to refit sometimes and some times its easy as pie i found easyet way is put the screws in the mounts pull up and little then take out and mount the screw locks on mine sink down some making it hard to get the screws to hold.

Yea, its all good :)

Im at 37C after folding for 2 hours ;) sill got the burn in period too :p

These zalmans are bloody heavy

cheers for the tip kemp ;)
