Chrome painting!!!!!!! Check it out!!!

Its also a complete fuarking arse to do..... OMFG the head aches of doing this is insane. (did a case about 3 years ago in this)

Not exactly new or revolutionary. And honestly not worth it.

getting even a halfway decent result, takes quite a bit of time, work and dedication.
Getting a perfect result is beyond most people's skills.

Having tried both I can assure you that I would rather sand and polish a case to a mirror finish than use this.

As I see it the best solution if you want a chrome case, is to send it to a professional chrome plating shop.
Small things like a case are not even that expensive to have done.

You'll have to pay for the paint as most shops won't stock it, so it will cost quite a lot.

There is no paint involved in chrome plating. The Electroplating actually puts a thin layer of chromium onto the surface of the item being plated.

And it is actually surprisingly cheap.

£400+ to do the externals of a full tower alu case. Not to mention most case have LOADS of plastic now so couldnt be done.....

Im a painter and i know that chrome paint is a "specialty" paint with a "specialty" price tag to match.

If this is something different to that then i can only see it costing more?

HA! ... there you go.

Chrome plate isnt paint mate. Its just like nickle, copper or gold plating. Its a real thin layer of metal electrically attached over the top of the original metal object.

Chrome paint is a whole other ball game requirering a gloss back base coat polished up to a mirror, then the chrome paint is sprayed on to a warm panel. Thats about the only way to get it properly mirror like and not get hazing.

(using HOK mirror)

I though it was painting originally when i saw it, i know it's not now.

Yes i've seen chrome paint being applied where i used to work. Though the panel wasn't "warm", unless you mean the standard 20 ish degrees?

Holy crap. you guys are being raped over there :o

I have had a few things plated over the years. And every shop that i have used charges somewhere around £150-£200 for something the size of a standard mid-full tower case.
Considering how much time and work it would save you and how durable the result is compared to paint, I think that is a VERY good price.

And it is quite possible to plate plastic. If your shop told you differently, they were not very good.

Edit to add: Yes, there are types of plastic that you can't simply electroplate as you would anything else. For such parts most decent shops will advise vacuum metalizing instead, as it is cheap and easy to match to the electroplated parts.

Chrome plating IS NOT PAINT. it is an actual metal layer put onto the item by electroplating.
No paint is involved at all.
