Chris' Desk

Alright guys?

I Have made myself a new desk so i thought i’d share it.

I already have some Ikea stuff and i wanted to match the style when building my new desk. Ikea actually sell a desk that matches the stuff i already have, but the sizes were wrong for what i wanted and i couldn't justify the money they were asking.

Anyways...

So i started with an old desk top that my dad managed to grab from his workplace.

I then set about cutting it to the desired size.
With that done, i bought some timber and made the legs and stuff.

Once everything was cut and test fitted, i then glues and screwed the whole thing together.

I then broke out the filler and started...Filling :O

Once it had dried i gave the filler a sand.

I then sanded the whole thing and degreased it ready for paint.

Then i sanded it again and panel wiped it before the second coat.

I had something similar before, but i made it from scrap wood and it was smaller. I had a sheet of acrylic on the old one to match the glass on the Ikea thing, so i’m reusing that until i can get some glass cut for my new one.

Just need to sort the rig out now!

Really like the desk, looks really simple and minimalist.
You just need to get rid of the 4:3 monitor :D

Yeah man i wanted it to match. I though about doing something more fancy but i didn't think it would look right.

Haha thats my secondary monitor man. I occasionally use it if i want to watch something whilst I'm doing something else, or for following a tutorial's etc whilst I'm doing it on the primary display.

Just wanna add that I'm already working on a new snazzy case and i'm looking to do a custom loop (gonna be a while yet though:/)

The speakers wont be staying. I've ordered a cheap mini amp that i'll use to run some other speakers.

Think I'm gonna make a custom monitor arm to support both monitors too.

Cheers for the nice comments guys!

Forgot to add, it came in at £8 for the timber and i already had the paint.
Ikea's "matching" desk that doesn't actually match comes in at £125

Probably gonna make a small set of draws at some point that i can store underneath.
