Checking VRM temperature

Hi,
Since lot of youtubers and reviewers regularly test out motherboard temperatures. I was wondering what kind of thermometer they use. I have a multimeter that had a thermocouple with it. Not sure if its accurate or not. If yes, where do i place it to check the max temp etc?

Please link me if there is any guide, or information to look it to.
