Cheating on overclock3d CoD4

Hi all,

First I apologise for posting this here. I cant post in the Gaming Clan forum (permissions or somesuch) maybe someone could move it for me, unless it is deemed appropriate to stay here.

I play on the Overclock servers quite often, and for about the last 2 months. I like them, no bull

people, and great ping times to boot.

I play under the name of 'Kutt' and I logged in yestarday to play.

I took ONE shot at someone, and a great long list of (similar)

+++++ took a headshot from Kutt

***** took a headshot from Kutt

$$$$$$ took a headshot from Kutt.

Etc etc etc.

Immediately after I was banned from the server. The vote was unanymous (sp?) and I was 'temporarily' banned from the server. (how long temporarilly is i have no clue, i still cant get back on yet)

Now whats wrong with this?

Well firstly I am a relatively new player to CoD4 online and have managed to make 44 levels on the overclock3d servers, played about 19 hours in all.

Secondly I dont EVER cheat!! I am a 37 year old who likes to play first person shooters now and again when I have the time! I cant ABIDE cheats, and am VERY glad that punkbuster exists to keep the cheating down.

Thirdly I was MORTIFIED that people I had played with before would vote to have me kicked from the server!

Put simply... I do NOT cheat! I was not cheating yestarday, and the readers guess is as good as mine as to why CoD4 would think I WAS cheating. It was the first time i had ever seen the 'headshot' thing come up in the console window and wondered myself what was happening, especially seeing MY name in each of the incidents and doing nothing with the keyboard or mouse.

I am posting here simply because I cant bear to be labeled a CHEAT. I want my name cleared from any suggestion, and would love to be unbanned from the server .

First off welcome Kutt, I notice this was your first post

I am sure a admin will have a look at this for you, but if you answer a couple of my simple questions it may help when the admin sorts it out.

1) Has this sort of headshot happened on any other server?

2) How up to date is your PB file?

3) How up to date is your av and when was the last time you scanned?

4) Does anyone else know you r account details, username, etc.?

It may be worth arranging a private session sometime to help clear yourname, but I do not think the admins will have time for this yet.

to post in the gaming section, you need to be part of the gaming group.

In the user CP there is a group memberships tab near the bottom left. In there you can join the gaming group; it may need confirming by an admin.

Once joined you can post until your heart is content.

If you was voted off then it is only a temporary ban and you should be able to join I think it is one hour after being kicked but not 100% sure on the time as it can be changed.

I cant say I have seen your name but lots of people on at anytime is hard to remember them all.

I have noticed on one of the oc3d servers that some people are intentionally putting the text up that a common bot uses as if it is coming from a certain player in the hopes they will get kicked. either that or they have edited up the hack so that it shows somebody elses name and it is now apart of the hack to do this. However the name at the beginning of the text is the person who is writing to the screen was it your name at the beginning or somebody elses? I always check to make sure the name that is typing the text is the same.

If you are joining other servers and the samething is happening then you are intentionally cheating as you have to preload the cheats before you load in to the game. I am not saying you are cheating so do not take offence! but the paragraph is fact.

Also note punk buster is not enabled at time of writing or prior on the oc3d servers.

All of the above is possible I guess an admin might be able to look over the logs and see if it was your name that pumped out the text, if it wasnt your name and somebody else using your name in the text then that would clear it up. But the logs might be overwritten by now.

I wouldnt worry too much if you do not cheat then somebody either intentionally put the text on the screen to fool others or there is a version of that bot out that is doing it to fool others. If I was on the server at the time I would have seen it was fake if this is the case and would have voted no! More people will get wise to this soon and it will not be an issue.

EDIT: Last night somebody did this to me they changed their name to something similar to mine and then started blurting the text out and then changed their name back. For example

Shooter renamed to realltybytes

then they either enabled the cheat itself or had a bind and then they renamed themselves back after it came up a few times.

I got voted off the next round I did get back on and after a few wrong votes managed to explain but the main goal was achieved. No doubt it is somebody who is actually using the cheat as that particular bot has the option to enable and disable announcements.

This is my problem to , some people is change nick to RaZoR and start

cheating . Biggest problem is that same person is playing 3 times when I

played and then go away when I tell he/she to change nick.

And the problem is when I want to connect lots of times I got message that

I'm Temporary Baned .

Yes I tested it last night it is possible to have duplicate names on at the same time.

I know PB has the option to dissallow duplicate names but I do not think a non pb server has that option.

Luckily the players on the server are getting wise to it and not voting me off because of it.

Is there any reason why Pb cant be turned on ? because it really is not good when people are using aimbot and there team support them so even a kick wont work.

Unfortunately punkbuster causes more problems than it fixes. All you need to do is search google for punkbuster problems and you'll find masses of people complaining that they are being kicked for no reason, that punkbuster doesn't work with/crashes certain software (Vista SP1, rivatuner etc), that ppl cant play any games after a PB update....the list goes on.

To top it off, the owners of PB generally act like your average immature admin, refusing to accept that they make mistakes and generally making it extremely hard for you to clear your name when you do run into trouble.

Also, on another note. The PB master database has only banned ~20 players from COD4 for cheating so far, so I'm surprised that there are seemingly so many hackers on the OC3D servers.

As always tho, if you suspect someone of cheating: record it, post it here and we'll ban them.

Hi Jim,

thanks for an update.

#1 I agree pb is not the greatest I setup ran and administered servers for cod, cod uo and cod 2 and fully understand the limitations that it offers. To address those main issues that you state there though the vista compatability which in truth was more of a configuration problem is now not an issue. Also kicking for no reason issue is not as much a problem anymore although people will still get kicked if pb cannot communicate with the master server but it is by no means a major problem anymore. Updating pb to the latest version will fix both those issues.

#2 Yes PB do take a hard stance on their ban lists this and communication with them contesting anything with them is not great, but that in itself IMHO is not a bad thing, personally I have never had the need to communicate with them on that level nor anybody I know. Yes there have been issues when they make mistakes and people get kicked for no reason but when this occurs there is always an update to address.

#3 PB alone is not great but in combination with pbbans and punksbusted and active administration does offer alot more in bans. I play on some pb enabled servers also and it is fairly non stop how many people getting kicked. PB setup correctly with a decent config file can help alot. That along with the fact that alot of the hardcore cheats try to avoid pb enabled servers. In saying that though a common publically available bot one that has been mentioned in use by several of us on these forums and seems to be the favourite in use on your server is still not detected by pb.

I appreciate you are busy with other things but have you actually played on your servers for several hours recently? I have seen some of your clan members on from time to time and on each occassion they have seen the common text from one of the public bots! however those people have now got wise and disabled that text from spewing up except when they want it to. Then there is new people on a daily basis joining and using this same bot.

In short and in truth the only way to keep on top of it is to use PB, streaming to pbbans and punksbusted and actively administer the server. I guess in reality this might not be the way you want it to go. That will only lead to the honest players moving on to a server that does offer those things leaving the kids with their toys behind to play amongst each other. You have one (well now two) of the most active COD4 servers online it would be a shame to see it fall completely to hacking players and clans.

Good call. I notice that the Oc3d #2 CoD Server is full most of the time too now. Will be good to get some feedback.

Is it also possible for you to add permanent reoccuring messages such as:

1) If you suspect a cheater, post screenshots / videos on www.overclock3d.net

2) Strictly no racism, swearing or offensive behaviour

etc etc?

Will be good to give genuine players a place to visit regarding the server

I've been looking around for ways to do server messages (like on our CSS servers) but as yet I havent come across anything. If anyone can provide any pointers, I'd be more than happy to get some messages up.

Ideally i've been looking for a way to implement a !admin command that will email all OC3D server admins and alert them to a cheater on the server. I've seen it done in Unreal and CSS, but mods for COD4 seem a bit thin on the ground atm.

EDIT: Server #2 is updated with PB now. Funnily enough the second I restarted it, it global banned 3 people out of the 50odd playing on there

EDIT2: Ok make that about 13 ppl so far :/

I'm not sure what the bans are for, but a lot of them seem to start with 1b4 as part of the reason code. Be interesting to see if these are actually hackers or maybe just ppl sharing cd-keys :\

I play on the 2nd server mostly and there are quite a few well dodgy people on there.. Obviously the really quality players too much some are just so blatent.

ModernRcon provides a means of message generating, kicking, banning, temp banning etc etc, but to keep the messages rotating I believe you need to keep the software open. I know that some of the settings are saved to the server, but I don't think this applies for messaging

I can confirm it is not a vista issue have connected myself without any problems!

For the PB violation codes http://www.pbbans.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=32076. The 1b4 I suspect is part of the players GUID though as pb reason codes are numbers.

I got the server working Pb services were not running for some reason Server is nice now not 1 person complained about aim bot. I just hope i dont get no more random temp bans
