alrite, an odd ask but...

Going to be starting a project which will basically revolved around how little amount of money i can spend to get a system going, so ill be doing alot of second hand site trawling etc...

SO

I went to by local pc chop shop and a buddy very kindly donated a foxconn AM3 690sg chipset MoBo with 4GB DDR3. This will become the basis of the project methinks, so im now looking for preferrably a second hand AM3 processor or a very cheap one

was thinking along the lines of a amd athlon x2 or x3, or maybe something that i can unlock/overclock to maximise price performance

let me know with CPU suggestions and places where i can pick up one for very cheap

i think with some semprons you can unlock it into an athlon x2

last i looked they were around 20 quid

be interesting to see how this build turns out

good luck mate

i ahve phenom x2 550 be, unlocked to a quad x4 b50, and i run 24/7 oc at 3.57 ghz could push further but i dont need more than this for casual everyday stuff.

I have a phenom ii x4 955 (3.21ghz stock) from my old rig that was run about 9hrs a day most days and NEVER abused

i might be able to relinquish fairly cheapish.

But i have a matching asus m4a79t-deluxe mobo (790 chipset) that would be much better than the 690

cheers for the reponses lads, ill be staying with the 690 chispet as i dont want to have shell out cash for a board and it would go against the ethos. Predator and vegenace, what prices we talking, pm me if you want to let them go

Cram whats the OC ability on that 250? any lee way or is it gonna hum along at 3.0ghz and no higher?

will put a built log up when i have a couple more parts, maybe even foray into case modding to maximise price performance

Just found this, 2.1 phenom x3 for 30 quid http://www.ebay.co.u...=item3f18825a56

Or you could grab this and make it into a fully passive system/super low RPM fans that are near silent, http://www.aria.co.u...productId=48881 at 20w it will put out next to no heat and will be fine for web/music/video stuff, some you can unlock to a dual core aswell from what ive seen.

alrite ill sit it out and keep trawling the bay of dreams,

nice find on the x3, ill look into how much lee way there will be for OC, as for the other CPU a nice thought but not really where this project is aiming:)

I think definitely get to 100 posts and look at the FS&W forum because generally things there are about 20% cheaper than the second hand parts on ebay, as we dont have to pay listing fees or anything on here.

Not doing anything if it isnt on FS&W...

......on a separate note, I just upgraded from a Phenom 965 to intel, getting new RAM and a new cooler

EDIT - and motherboard obviously...

yeh, tbh i tink im gonna have to snap up that i5 650, its super cheap and the same price as some athlon x2 64s! and I think its got good OC potential

BUT, leaves me the issue of getting a MoBo and thats what im worrying about finding for cheap, but im sure the thread your talking about will have some fruitfull offerings

only problem is that its an 1156 socket so you would struggle to find a mobo that it will fit on. It does OC very well though.

hahaha don't worry im not expecting scan but for second hand goods, but its a much more knowledgeable area, and i may be able to ask to see whether people have the parts i need, and with cash i maybe be able to tempt them, hence a want, unlike with ebay and gumtree etc...

ill go have a nose in a couple of local shops, they always seem to have some bargains
