Chat box at the bottom of the forum

Hey guys, I have used quite a lot of forums In the past and one of my favourite features I have seen is a chat box at the bottom of the forum, I really like it because if for example I find a really funny youtube clip and I want to sahe it with you guys I wouldn't need to create a whole thread about it and I could just post it in the chatbox, It could also be helpful for people organizing to play Battlefield or something together.

A chatbox would be a great idea, or even a chatroom type thing on another page on OC3D for forum members. Would be nice to be able to just jump in the chat and talk about whatever, or organise a gaming session, something like that

Afaik, this was tried a few years back and became a mod nightmare. Also, people were posting questions to the chatbox instead of the forum. Tom has said more than once that it won't be coming back.

Ok seems fair enough, the forums I have been on before with chatboxes were all quite small forums that I guess would not be as prone to getting spam

It would defeat the purpose of a forum tbh. As mentioned above everybody would just use the chat function, making the forums seem derelict/not as active as it is, because of the lack of topics/discussions.

Another forum i use which uses the same layout ect as this (an RC forum) has a Supporter membership where you pay £9.99 for the year and you get access to the Chat room feature among other things which include a 5% loyalty discount on all orders from there Model shop. Maybe you could offer the same chat room (as im sure its built into the forum?) at maybe £5 a year membership? And change their title to Supporters rather than Member, that way you could have a chat room and keep spammers out.

I realize the Chat feature adds a cost onto the forum running costs but the Supporter feature would help pay for this and help the forum?

We've been doing this a little while, Ive got answers to all your ideas but sadly dont have the time to explain. LOL

If its not been done there is a reason.
