channel taken a boring turn

yeah I'm getting pretty sick of the ads and extra 'bull excrements' when watching LTT vids too, it's really annoying sometimes.

Keep up the superb quality of your vids and reviews, Tom ^_^
That's also the reason I'm only active on this forum and not any other one ;)

There are many reasons why computer part review sites have gone quiet. It's not just OC3D, all of the other sites I visit are quiet right now.

Don't forget we've been through (and are still in depending on what expert you believe) a recession. It's amazing that most of these companies have managed to survive tbh. That means that less products are coming out (still no TI Lightning) and thus there are less products to review.

Then there's the fact that Tom has been busy and let's face it, Linus talks s**t most of the time so it's not fair to compare the two.

I mean really, who needs to see a PC running in a bloody mini fridge to know that the crap don't work?

I also agree about the Linus making money part. He had people sending him cash a couple of months back to make a new office etc. He's always sticking his hand out.

Just chill and don't be so bloody rude and disrespectful to Tom.

Your last sentence was a little frosty don't you think? The OP simply raised a concern about content (which if I'm honest I noticed) and was complementary to TTL on the whole; but where was the rudeness and disrespect? Tom took the criticism and he and others listed the reasons more than adequately without any antagonism.

Telling Tom his channel is boring is terribly rude IMO.

Remember, there's always the option to keep your opinion to yourself and simply leave it at that.

I don't do 'internet wee taking' so basically I treat people the same on here as I would IRL and that means showing a modicum of respect and thus I wouldn't dream of telling some one they are boring. It's an insult.

So no, I don't think it was frosty at all to point that out.

I cant please everyone, Im still trying to come to terms with that tbh :p

If he thinks its boring then fine, he might not have enjoyed the massive rants and eduction like others.

I am doing less than I was and Id love to do more, its just making it work as a positive without effecting the basics

Since I am not working anymore due to caring for my mother I have quite abit of spare time but I cannot write articles etc and I wish I could help but I know I have no real skills to offer, to ease the load and boost productivity.

To be honest I noticed the drop in amount of videos being uploaded, but I understand it's difficult to run a business like this, with minimal "staff/volunteers" and whilst looking after a younger family member.

For me as long as I get to watch a indepth video when new products launch that actually matter to me I am happy, I personally do not need to see a 30+ minute video on a network card or ssd etc unless it's a dramatic change to the industry such as NVME.

For me what Linus does is fine for most of the stuff as he doesn't go indepth he just covers some of the basic stuff, but the amount of ad's etc in them is annoying since it's anything from 10% to 25% of the video normally.

The only thing I think Tom could do potentially is look for someone to help with video reviews etc, but that person would have to fit on camera have a similar personality to Tom and be able to put points across clearly and not be biased towards certain brands and not bring trouble to Tom from companies, since Tom needs to keep up his relationships with companies in order to keep the site going.

That may be something that could help OC3D but it may not be what Tom wants to do as iirc Tom said at some point, he would prefer to be the only person uploading videos apart from potentially one other person who's name I forgot.

Either way what people need to remember is that doing a review is not just about opening a box and slapping said product in a system, there is alot of testing to do, potentially trouble shooting to do then trying to get consisitent results over a set number of tests, writing the review and then if needed getting it checked by potentially more than one person to ensure it's ready to go live.

That is a lot of work and takes time which will have a impact on the quantity of material being produced, and compared to other sites/channels I think Tom is doing a cracking job.

Regulars no but Im always looking for writers, other than that unless youre near me its hard to be able to do anything that wouldnt mean me doing most of it anyways lol
Where do I sign up? ;)

Seriously though, I subscribed to OC3D a long time ago off the back of one of your crazy all-nighter builds; those days were brilliant to watch and I'm sure brilliant for you to do too. OC3D has grown since then, I'm sure, and the videos you do now are massively informative, well researched and with copious amounts of testing. Put simply, they're better than just about anything out there.

Would it be nice to see more "fun" videos? Yes, it would. But that's not what OC3D is (anymore?). Keep it up Tom, and team!

Oh, and if you are looking for writers, if there's anything I could do to help I'd be happy to? I'm in Andover..?

When this thread came up, there was something that was nagging at me. Tom, love the work you do, and all the reviews. But there is one thing that came to mind that seams missing today.

Every other reviewer out now has a weekly pod cast, or some type of regular show on one of the video channels. I find myself tuning in to watch these just as much as review information. I know there is only so much time someone has to produce these shows, but when you get to interact with others on YT, Twitch and Twitter, it changes your content diet. These types of interactions really make some type of content seem lacking for a lack of a better term.

I think these type of shows the bridge from just tuning in to get information on a product to getting to know the person presenting that information. It helps the viewer connect to the reviewer even though some of the time their videos range from stupid, to they are going to cause someone to break their equipment when overclocking leaving auto voltage on and not pointing that out ***cough**** cough**** Paul's Hardware. But its still fun to watch.

I don't know if you would be up to this type of weekly show Tom, but I know I would love to tune in and watch and I bet a great many of your followers would do the same.

I don't think TTL is a type of guy to do a Weekly Tech Show

I really enjoy weekly podcasts like Teksyndicate, Linus' Wanshow etc...

I think it's a great idea. A scheduled show would be something to look forward to and could feature whatever's in the tech news, current forum trends or a spotlight on the project logs of which there are plenty but don't get much of a focus on OC3D.

For me, the WAN show is hit or miss, usually miss. Every now and then, he will will strike gold and have a broadcast that I really like, and brings me back to watch a few more. Tek Syndicate is always good, and I really like watching Jayz 2 Cents, and Barnacules.

TTL probably would not want to do a weekly show, but would he really turn down the extra viewership, and possible more sponsorship?

Lets face it, look at the guys from Newegg :)
