CCFL reliability?

At the start of this year, I got a CCFL kit, unbranded I know so I wasnt really expecting much. But within a few days of use, the inverter, basically caught fire. The inverter overheated so badly, it melted the PCB, and the outer plastic casing. I contacted the shop saying, I dont really think this product is suitable to be sold as there is kind of a fire risk here didnt ask for a refund or replacement as it'd opened up the box to check inside which voided the warranty anyway, and I wasnt exactly bothered about the £3.

I got a reply saying they'd sent me out another set....

Not exactly what I wanted but ok...

Tried them, never really left them on longer than about 20 minutes due to being sceptical of them. And in the 20 minutes they did seem to get pretty hot.

Anyway, stopped using them, and I changed the colour theme of my rig anyway.

So today, got another set, ordered from ebuyer. Just added it onto the order, didnt order them especially, but this time they were branded Sharkoon CCFLs, So I expected them to be better...

Within 10 minutes of use, again the inverter has overheated, caused the standard plastic burning smell.

Does anyone else have reliability issues with cathodes? Cause this is getting a little ridiculous now

Yeah Cathodes can be pretty terrible, LED's are so much more reliable, efficient and don't get hot. Plus i think they look nicer too. I'd recommend getting some Bitfenix Alchemy LED's or the NZXT LED Kit, cathodes are just a no go for me

Yeh I've figured that now

i liked the amount of light the cathodes actually produced though. Just dont understand how products can be that unreliable

To be honest, I've never found Cathodes to be an attractive light source. Go with some LEDs or even better, SuperFlux LEDs which give off a much better, much smoother radiant glow.
