Cats, dust and smoking . . . and a pc

Ok so today i had a little project at a relative to install a SSD and put windows on it.
So, pulled the case out from underneath the desk and notices some dust on the cooler master cosmos case (older model)
So since i allready brought my magic brush i popped the roof off to clean it.
That's where the "fun" started lol

If this is the main air OUTlet you can kinda imagine what was to come on the inside.

Cables pulled over the GPU and mobo, dust inside the power cable sleeve? yikes :S

Radeon 7970 and the bottom case fan (only inlet fan)
Keep in mind the 7870 has a BLACK pcb, not white / grey lol

As expected the CPU cooler wasn't much better off.
Did anybody identify any new lifeforms on the blades of this fan?

Solid wall of dust behind the fan. the next step? a indoor house fire.

Everything cleaned and installed. We ended up taking everything out for cleaning, even took the shroud off the 7970 to clean.

Final result: 34C idle temp on the cpu and 70 bucks in my pocket
On top of that, a new rig is planned in the future and guess who will be doing it

I can't answere that really tbh, i just do the dirty work lol.
But yeah, the PSU and the 7970 looked very ok compared to the rest.
So whoever put those two in recently "didn't see" the state of the rest i guess lol.
Don't you just love half done jobs? ^_^

with pets/smoking in the house it does not take long to build up dust like that inside the PC. my dads house is smoked in with a dog in the house. the house its self is cleaned EVERY day by my step mom, and so is the outside of the pc. however, about twice a year i open it up and blow the dirt out of it. it is as bad, if not worse than the one u have here. it kind of confuses me also. theres no carpet in the house, all leather furniture, no dust to be found anywhere else, except inside the pc lol

i clean mine maybe twice a year and then there is only a bit of dust on the hdds. quit smoking mate.

This inspired me to clean my case out today It wasn't as bad as this but it was still pretty bad, also temps have dropped by 2*c.

My mum's a hairdresser that works at home, and she cuts people's hair in the kitchen where my dad's PC is, and I opened it recently for the first time since they bought it in 2004, and you could barely see anything because of all the hair cut offs and the fibres from the rug in the other room. I never knew it could get so bad, I was just shocked

Yeah as you can remember the owner of this pc was pretty embarassed by how it looked on the inside.
I kinda opened his eyes on the need for cleaning part and he was even going to call people he knew who also probably never cleaned out their pc lol
I guess that says enough.

I'm kinda mad at myself i didnt check temps before the cleaning tho, must have been pretty bad since he plays b4 maxed all the time.
Ah well there's allways next year lol ^_^

It looks like you invited 50 smokers in to your house to all blow their fumes into your case and then every night when you turn your computer off you take the side panel off and put a bunch of cats in there.

In all seriousness though, That should be a wake up call, If it's done that to the PC, Imagine what all the smoking has done to his lungs and body.

Just a tip and not having a go in any way bud but look at your PC next time you have to clean it and then think for a moment about the crap that your body is taking in on a daily basis from those little white sticks.

Again I'm not having a go or anything as I smoke now and then as a little treat, Usually every 6 months or so I have a cigar so I know how nice it is but smoking shouldn't be such a huge part of your lifestyle that it can cause problems.

Just food for thought.

It would be best to get some air&give it a wizz every few weeks, or once a month if you can, to keep on top of it. I'm not sure if that case has filters, i was looking into demciflex filters too (with maybe sp fans) I was quite impressed when seeing them on a few videos. I smoke so know of the worry! I always try to check out the cooler option on the gpu to see how easy it is to clean :huh:
