Car photos/discussion thread

Give me a couple of weeks to pick up my new car and ill be able to show the difference between cheap and expensive kit. Ill be doing a low end competition setup in a Saab 9-3 wagon soon.

Quick couple of shots from the old car

These are in the boot of a Corsa and i can still put a big old rucksack in the boot no problem.

Nice amps! I've got a stereo 100 tucked away under a bed until I can be bothered to install it in the new car.

How long did all that take to sort out?

Mostly as and when me and dad had time to try and sort it. He works 5 or 6 days a week and I've had A2 exams. It's mainly the warmer weather that's caused it but we've nearly replaced the entire cooling system at this point. seems to be sorted now though it doesn't get to the temp it used to run at during normal driving (86-88) and no only gets to 80-82 sometimes 86 if i'm going for a spirited drive :L.

Got an old school alpine set up in the back of my saab. It's a fully active 9 channel system using a 3672 active dividing network splitting the front and rear signals up into sub, mid bass, mid, high and rear mid. The amps are a 3566 6 channel and 3553 4 channel. Not quite as up market as genesis or DLS but certainly good enough for my ears.

The headunit is an old clarion DRX9255, which was one of the best cd players around in 1996, only rivalled by the nakamichi cd-700, alpine 7909 and 7939. (dual 20-bit burr brown sign magnitude dacs with denon alpha processing)

Gathered quite a collection of parts since i got the car back in 2009. (this is just some of it as i have an amp mountain and speakers too)

may i just ask this though it might a little off topic but can some explain me in short or give me a certian link with the explanation of what an AMP is? ^^ cant seem to find it on google though it might be something simple :D

Just got a new silencer/backbox/muffler on my car last friday, too bad it still sounds the same as it got way too much stuff going on in the exhaust piping, will be straight piping it after the next vrt (equal to mot ), for some more turbo whistle goodness :)

Also I have a question about installing the amp in my car, I am currently in the process of sorting my head about the wiring of a 4 channel amp, I know how to wire the power, ground, remote and wires from the speakers to the amp. What I'm lost with is the connection between the amp and the head unit, the head unit has 4 rca connections on the back, 2 for front speakers and 2 for rear/subwoofer. Now I plan on installing a sub later on, so what should the 4 channel amp be connected to? the 2 front rca's? or all 4 of them? but then how would I add an additional sub?

might sound like a stupid question but for someone that is still learning about cars and wiring and sound and all that shiznit, its not the easiest thing in the world :)

Can't have a diesel without some choo choo!

They're rare because they are Rovers. Gaskets blowin' in the wind.

Thats what happened to my dads 2nd one so he got the 3rd one for parts. Im sure somewhere somebody has a rover with a destroyed engine and a sound body that would be a great dirt cheap car for an engine swap.

Rover V8 or none imo. Then again I'm not a massive fan of those cars :P.

K series engines in Rovers are really bad. With them you may as well include head gasket replacement in the annual service.

Don't bother with rear speakers... get a decent set of components up front and run those off a two channel amp and then a bridgeable or mono amp to run the sub off the rear outputs on the head unit. If you really need rear fill then just leave the rears running off the head unit.

Depending on how flexible the 4 channel is you might be able to run the fronts off two channels and then bridge the other two channels to run the sub.
