Can't enter bios?

Hi guys, i have just decided to upgrade my system i have bought

Foxconn motherboard M61PMV

AMD Athlon 64x2 7750 black edition

Kingston hyper x , 2 x 2gb pc2 6400 cl4 240 pinn memory

put it all in the case and only have the power switch connected, all i get is the Foxconn splash screen and when i hit del to enter bios nothing happens, i've tried 2 keyboards and still the same, can't get into bios or get it to boot up, any ideas??

Reset the CMOS, it sounds like its freezing. I assume you are using a PS/2 keyboard, not USB?

Try reseating everything (including the CPU) and check the mobo jumpers and all the power connectors. What PSU are you using? Also check the mobo manual for troubleshootig and help and see if you need to do anything with jumpers.

Can you get a flash option for the bios to appear? I think that the last thing to try would be to get the latest bios on it in case it has compatibility issues with some of the hardware or ram - but that would be a last ditch thing.

have tried it with usb & ps2 keyboards and have just been and bought a brand new keyboard just in case and still the same.

have reset the cmos also

psu is a colorsit 550watt.

tried with some different memory yesterday to see if i could get in but still the same, i wonder if there is a fault with the ps/2 keyboard connector? think i'm gonna have to shell out on another mobo :cussing:

plug the motherboard speaker in and try and boot, what post beeps do you get as this would give us an idea of the error.

you could also trying pulling the board out of the case, run it on the motherboard box etc.

try ro rule out everything by removing all components, boot....add cpu.....boot....add ram.......... you get where i'm going

i doubt that the ps2 socket is failing, but hey, do you have a ps2 > usb adapter. the only issue is that usb functionality does not always work hence why we all keep ps2 keyboards in the cupboard

ah i thought boards come with built in speakers nowadays? maybe why i have no post beeps then? i'll take it out of the case tonight and try again.cheers.

just get a black screen with just the cpu, add ram and i get the foxconn splash screen and thats as far as i can get.

will try and get a speaker locally tommorrow and see if it gives me any error codes.

Have you tried unplugging it, taking out the CMOS battery and leaving it for a couple of hours or overnight?

i can actually get past the foxconn splash screen now by holding the tab key down whilst booting up, i then have the options of "del" for setup, "esc" for boot or "alt F2" for awdflash?

but now again i get no response from the keyboard .

might well do take the battery out tonight and leave it overnight.

Update..... couldn't get hold of a speaker so thought i'll whip the board out and as suggested set it up on the box it came in, i found a power switch amongst my bits and pieces save me having the case nearby and lo and behold attached to the switch was a speaker as well then i relised there was one in the case anyway lol

anyways set it up on the box, booted up, absolutely fine!! got into bios no problems.put the whole cabundle back in the case and now back to the same old story it halts on the splash screen?????

Sounds like it could be the back of the mobo touching the case or the mounting holes. Maybe even a loose solder.

welcome to the realm of case investigation.

most successful things i have found have been using thin card to back the motherboard to isolate it.

some cases come with card washers that do the same thing. I have also used rubber washers too.

we are trying to make sure that there is no chance that any metal part of the MB is touching a metal part of the case.

I've also popped washers on the screws so there is no contact on the top surface of the board either.

would you adam and eve it, 1 too many mobo standoffs left over from the old mobo, all working fine now so just gotta find my vista disc and i can start reinstalling everything..... thanks soo much all for your help i've been tearing my hair out.

just one more question.. if i put my old hard drive in it wont boot into windows, i'm guessing cos of drivers, if i do a windows repair will it delete everything off my old drive?

Windows repair rewrites a TOC of sorts i think, adding basic drivers etc.

I have run it before on troublesome installs and it has never deleted user data.
