Basically its telling me the .mp3 extension does not match the file actual type. Its not playing. Looks like they were something else before my mate sent to me - anyway of determining the original file type or whats wrong?

WMP and winamp dont like it

try changing the file extention....well, first of all try and find out what file extention it should be...

try the usual .mp3

.wma

.m4a

.aac

whatever

if they dont work, retern it to .mp3, and try it in a different player?

He sent me the files at a lan - dunno if he has the CD and when ill see him again (hardly see him)

Just need something to determine the file type really =/

He hasn't uses winrar on them has he? Might be worth trying to extract then with rar, I have dl'd files before and not had anything recognise them, even though i have winrar on my machine i just tried and they opened!

Not sure about obscure audio files.. Maybe they they are flac (audio compression) or ogg or i give up lol

Edit: W00t edit is back! Have you asked him what program he used? Is he a spazz? I wouldn't lose much sleep over this tho :)

lol - it was compressed with winrar cause there was other guys gaming @ the lan at the time so we wanted it sent asap. I extracted them, got the same crap.

YESSS EDIT!!! :D

Normal file sizes mate (its some jumpstyle/hard hard hard techno/gabber stuff) like 5mb-9mb ish

Would an .mp3 file converter do any good?

How about mp4, or whatever dumbass format itunes puts things in?

Get a hex editor and open the file(s), what are the first few bytes of each file?

Many file types have an identifying marker at the start.
