Cable "sleeving" - Eletrical tape safe?

So... I have some cables, mainly the fan cables, and sata cables, that are ugly red colors (clash with the blue scheme I'm doing), and I would like to tidy them up a bit.

I was hoping that I could just wrap them in some electrical tape for a quick/temporary fix, so that I can get this system up and running to test out all the hardware in case of a needed RMA.

Would the electric tape create any dangerous heat around these cables? I don't see it being a problem with the fans, as they are simple cables and that's what electric tape is made for, but what about the sata cables? They are going to be having a lot of data going through them at 6GBs...

I also thought about using a black sharpie marker, but that has cemicals that I think might eat into the cables themselves.

What do you all think?

Thanks.

Cables don't create excess heat unless there is more power going through them than they are rated for...

Electrical tape will work fine, it wont cause excess heat.

sata cables don't make practically any heat at all plus they have quite a bit of shielding/insulation on them already so a little tape couldn't hurt.

If you leave the tape on for more than a week it will probably leave a bit of sticky residue...

if the aesthetics matter to you that much... (or in my opinion not enough) to put electrical tape around your cables, go for it.

So you're telling me that because the cables are red, you can't test your computer?

Just test the system and buy some sleeving. Fan and sata cables are easy to sleeve.

i was just thinking of a free way to do it. I don't want to go through the sleeving of these cables.

Black tape looks better than the stock colors that are clashing with the rest of the look of my build.

quite frankly dude, just get some cheep sleeving and don't be that kid that everybody shakes their head at...

sorry, but it needed to be said...

HAHAHAH. Thanks man, I like when people don't beat around the bush.

Those aesthetic mods will be saved for last.

You know...they make black sata cables and they should've come with your motherboard

Yep, and I am using those for my hard drives and such, but the two that are pre-installed into the case are red. They are also glued to the top IO panel's board. Maybe I'll look into replacing them some day.

black SATA cables aren't that expensive. rather than taping, just get it built, tortured

and then step back and ponder the needs.. thngs change so quick and to be honest

that'd be to hokie to attempt even for a bandaid.

I used black insulation tape for a little while, but it looked fugly after a bit. Initially I thought it looked fine, but I took it off after a couple of days. It did leave a little bit of sticky residue as mentioned above, but it was easy to clean off as the tape wasn't on the cables for very long.

It wont cause excess heat no - although I did the same thing a while ago to an 8 pin EPS power cable, and it worked fine, but it did make it very hard to twist and bend. Probably cause I over wrapped, but just make sure you're easy on it
