Building a cheap PC

Hello people, building my mother a PC as she needs it for uni work, mostly going to consist of web browsing and using programs such as Microsoft Office. Would what I have so far be fine ? it doesnt need to be anything fancy just something practical that will allow her to work with no problems.

This is what I have came up with, I already have 4gb ram laying around to put in.

Let me know what you guys think, thanks :)

You can easily drop the GPU and swap the PSU out for a Corsair VS350. With the money saved get the best APU that you can afford.

I'm with blah, swap out the HDD for a 120GB SSD if she doesn't need a lot of storage, or at least swap out the Seagate drive for a Caviar Blue.

Okay, Overclockers don't have a Corsair VS350 in stock so I just decided to stick with the one I have, I will get an SSD later on down the line, probably in Jan when the sales are on. Does this look good to go ?

You could probably save a bit more by going with an AM1 motherboard and something like a Sempron 3850 or Athlon 5150 APU instead. You'll get 4 cores instead of 2, and the cooler is a lot quieter than what comes with the FM2 APUs. Only problem is that most of the boards only have two SATA ports.

But the FM2 setup will do the job just fine too.

I would need a board with at least 3 sadly, for the HDD SDD and the Disk Drive :/

Gotta be honest, I'm not very familiar with the low end AMD stuff, but it looks like an alright 'mum-pc' for just some browsing and Office work to me :)

I've an AMD A6-6400k in my HTPC and it handles everything I throw at it. I've an AM1 rig kicking around with a 5350 and that's just as capable.

Go ahead and pull the trigger already! :p

I already have a spare monitor, keyboard and mouse. I can get free OS from my college so I have that covered :) That build looks good, I may order that and chuck in a 500gb hard drive just to make sure she is covered :D
