Build: New Age

Hello Everyone,
During the up and coming few months or so, I'm going to be building myself a brand new rig, so I thought I would share it with you guys. I'm building a rig that will last me quite a while, so some of the parts may seem a bit overkill but I'm thinking ahead.

This will be my first proper build with completely new parts except for a few things I mention below.

The name "New Age" I just came up with as this will be my new age of computing. I've only ever had really old systems that die on me so this will be a massive step up from them.

My current rig is as follows:
CPU: Intel Pentium E5200 Lga 775 2.5Ghz
RAM: 4Gb generic how knows what brand haha
MOBO: Foxconn G31MXP-K
GFX: XFX Radeon 7770 Ghz Edition
COOLING: Stock Intel cooler
PSU: Corsair CX600M
STORAGE: SSD: OCZ Vertex 4 64Gb
HDD: Maxtor 7200Rpm 150Gb Seagate 7200Rpm 250Gb
CASE: Fractal Arc Midi R2

What I'm going to be upgrading to:
CPU: Intel Core I7 4790K
RAM: 16Gb of GSkill Ripjaws Z 2400Mhz CL10 4x4Gb Sticks 2x8Gb Kits
MOBO: Gigabyte Z97X UD3H Black Edition
GFX: EVGA Reference GTX 780
COOLING: Corsair H100I
PSU: Use my CX600M upgrade to Cooler Master V700 or V850 if needed
STORAGE: Stay the same may upgrade my ssd to a Crucial MX100 512Gb
CASE: No need to change

I'll run through why I've picked these parts.

CPU:
I chose the 4790K as I'm going to be doing a lot of rendering, CAD and Video editing so the threads will help with that. Also it should last me a lot longer than an I5.

RAM:
The RAM I knew I wanted something fast so 2400Mhz was a no brainer. I looked at several different kits and decided I don't need anything more than 16Gb. After watching several reviews on YouTube I came across LinusTechTips video about the GSKill Ripjaws Z, and Instantly said that's what I'm going for. I like the understated yet eye catching looks and the great performance to match.

MOBO:
Originally I was going to go with the Z87X UD3H as I liked the colour scheme as I hate all the red that's about, and blue has always been my colour.
I hadn't really looked into the Z97 boards because what I had seen was all the red and orange colours again. But these past few days I looked around a bit and came across the black edition Z97X Ud3H. It's perfect for what I'm going for which is a nice simple rig that looks quite stealthy. And the fact that the black edition boards are tested non stop for a week before leaving the factory, just shows how rock solid a board they are.

GFX:
I couldn't decide what to go for some people say go for a 280x or 290 others say dual 760's. In the end I chose a 780 because it's fine for what games I play (BF3, CS:GO and Minecraft to name a few) I don't play the latest games really unless something really catches my eye. I also don't play on super high settings, as long as I get a good frame rate at a reasonable quality I'm happy. I went with a reference version because of two reasons it's the cheapest and I love the looks.

COOLING:
I'm going with the H100I simply because it's just easy to install and use and you can get great performance from it. I am considering the H105 but need to have a measure up once I get the motherboard to see if i can squeeze it in. It shouldn't be a problem as the Arc Midi has the mount offset from the center but I would like to see the CPU socket.

The parts I already have are the case, power supply which I may upgrade, storage drives and one of the 8Gb memory kits.

The next parts I will be getting are the CPU and Motherboard.

Thank you so much for reading,
Let me know what you think.
Updates will be as and when I get parts so keep your eyes open.
Antony :)

I have the same GPU :) looks good performs well :) and i'm sure ya got a better deal than when i bought it lol :(

will be nice to see it when it comes round.

Yeah you can pick them up for £370 at Ebuyer now :)
I instantly said I want that in my rig when I saw the GTX 690 and now you can for a lot cheaper :P

Benchmarking

Hello again,
Done some benchmarking of my current setup so I can do comparisons.

The benchmarks I've used are all free or free versions.

They are as follows:
Unigine Valley v1.0
Unigine Heaven v4.0
3DMark Vantage
3DMark 11 v1.0.132
PCMark 8 v2.0.228
CrystalDiskMark 3.0.3b
Cinebench R15

That's all for now, I have ordered the CPU and Motherboard and should have them next week.

Just a quick update. I received the Motherboard and CPU yesterday and I am now up and running with the stock cooler (I feel pretty bad using it my poor I7 is going to melt)

Next I will definitely be getting the H100i.
Sorry for the not so great pictures I only have my phone to take them.

Thanks for reading,
Antony :)

EDIT: H100i is now ordered expecting to receive it next week

Yeah I thought that to, It's more gold than yellow irl the pictures don't represent it very well. And there's no lights it's just painted on so it's actually quite stealthy and subtle :)

Update

Haven't posted for quite a while so thought I would do an update.

Since my last post I've bought the H100i and the system has been running flawlessly.
I've overclocked the 4790K to 4.6 Ghz @ 1.26 Volts.
Planning on upgrading GFX in the new year probably a GTX 980.
Also looking at getting some better audio equipment and like the look of them Tannoy Reveal 402's, and getting a sound card.

That's all for now,
Thanks for reading,
Antony :)
