[Build Log] Behemoth

So I finally got round to sorting out my ageing computer, and refreshed it with a few new parts. I've been wanting to post a build log for a while, but put off doing it until I was able to actually do some work on the rig.

Hardware List
  • CPU - Intel Core i7 920 @ 2.66GHz
  • Motherboard - Asus P6T Delux V2
  • RAM - Corsair Dominator 3x 2GB
  • GPU - EVGA GTX 760
  • Case - NZXT S340 (Black)
  • PSU - Corsair RM750
  • Storage - Intel 530 Series 120GB
  • CPU Cooler - Corsair H100i
  • Sound - Soundblaster Z PCI-E card

Extras
  • Inateck USB 3.0 PCI-E card

First of all, the rig before I began earlier:

What's in the box?

Removing the MB and CPU cooler from the old rig:

This was filthy - neglected almost..

MB after I'd screwed it in place, with the rad just chilling there, not screwed in

Up the right way this time, rad fitted loosely. The tubes are a bit stiff, makes it hard to position. But it went in without much of a problem

Surprisingly good for clearing crap in hard to reach areas of the MB

Me getting clever with cable management. I didn't really try to tidy the area under the PSU shroud, as it's out of sight anyway, but I've tidied the rest around the edges

One thing I dislike with the GPU cables that came with this PSU is that it's like a daisy chain for the 4pin and 3pin, and it looks fugly. I have considered custom braided cables either the ones you can buy pre-done from the likes of OCUK or if they are made the same way as the included cables, a custom made cable

Well this build log seemed a bit off at the beginning I must add... but then the eye candy came along and all nice! :)

Dat CPU cooler though.... god dang... was it like a century ago you cleaned that thing?

That case though, the shinyness of it :D and all the new goodie upgrades.... loving it! :)

And yes, I need to dust the tops of the cards - I haven't done it yet! :)

Yeah it is a bit odd to begin with :D It might as well have been a century - mate and me built the system up from his old PC that I'd bought off him (the MB, CPU, cooler, RAM) and since then (mid last year) it has sat out of sight, out of mind on the floor.

Now that it's up on the desk, it will get a lot more attention that's for sure :D

Haha, neither have I on my now 3 years old 6950 :p

Haha, well odd is good! Keeps it stand out for the crowd, good on you for that! :)

Well nice one for using old parts and slighty giving her a new refreshing look :)

Yes, what you could is to try and cable tie that short daisy chain cable to the main one. Or buy pre-made ones... I bhought a kit of CableMods Black/Blue cable kit for my HX750i PSU. Not sure if their kits is compatible with your PSU though, but I think so.

Worth a look ;)
