Bucket of Problems with rs482 computer

*reply, bump, whatever you call it*

No random reboots occur when onboard sound is disabled and the AC'97 codec is uninstalled. This hypothesis is quite hard to test, as my evidence is only that the computer survived watching the whole video in which it crashed watching before. Though it confuses me as to why sound should make a difference, the fix to this seems plain enough: Install a separate sound card. Not a problem, I was going to buy an X-fi anyways.

EDIT*** this hypothesis is incorrect, as the computer still reboots when running the x3 rolling demo after an unknown amount of time. :(

*another reply, update, bump, seeing as that its slightly important*

Purchased an Enermax Liberty 620 watt today. Not 5 minutes into a rolling demo of X3 did the computer reboot, ****ing me off royally. . I really wish I knew the what the problem component was so I can fix it.. :(

Oddly enough, when running the computer off of 2 powersupplies (one powering hard drives, fans, cdrom, pump, lcd display, etc. and the other powering motherboard, cpu, and gpu, the computer didnt reboot at all for nearly a week, with the only problem being at 1.525 volts.)

I'm quite stumped by this, seeing as that the Enermax 620 watt has

"proven" to work on computers which load more than 475 watts, such as a dual x1900xtx. What am I doing wrong!

Ive not been following you thread but have the powersuplies youve tried been dual rail?

I've tried running 2 dual rail power supplies together and 1 dual rail + 1 single rail 12 volt powersupply.

The 2 dual rail power supplies had the best stability.

or:

Enermax 500 watt 22a/22a 12v

Aspire 420 watt 13a/11a 12v

and

Enermax 500 watt 22a/22a 12v

Antec 550 watt 24a single rail 12v

and

Enermax 620 watt 24a/24a 12v

I assume you're going to make the arguement that Radeon x1900xtx's dont work well on more than one rail, and for that I Give you this link: http://www.guru3d.com/article/cases/307/

My PCP&C has three RAILs and my X1900XTX works fine :)

Exchange the Enermax, sell the Antec - get the PCP&C 850 :D

I've -exactly- 140mm of space to work with, the Enermax is already cutting it quite thin, almost pinching off tubing from the CPU. If you can find me a PSU that fits in that size, I may just replace it with that one. the PCP&C simply wont fit.

The Modular part helps immensely as well.

EDIT** and no, I dont have a single 1 rail PSU with both a PCI-E And a 24 pin mobo connector.

Yup, old topic, have you solved your problems? I have the same problems, apparently one of the rare PSUs the RS482 works well with is the Antec NeoHE.

LOTS of people got problems with the Liberty and this motherboard.

I noticed the same thing as you, loading the CPU helps. When I run Folding@Home, no reboots, when I don't, it reboots randomly. Some people fixed the problem by changing PSU and disabling USB 2.0, onboard sound and onboard network.

My onboard sound doesn't work at all.

He ended having so many bad things happen (ex: after shipping, tube got kinked, didn't notice, it went pop! screwed up some mobo wires...) so he ended just building himself a new comp

I finally got the onobard sound working... Something I've got to learn:

Plugging the HDA connector instead of the AC'97 one on an AC'97 onboard codec disables the rear inputs as well.

The computer has stopped rebooting for about a month, and hence I'm going to try overclocking again. My problems before were that even though I could reach about 320fsb at 5 multiplier testing max cpu and nearly 265 with 11 multiplier testing max memory, but absolutely NOTHING CLOSE even between. . (max 215 at 8mult, for example)

The changes I made were ultimately to replace all watercooling with aircooling, ditch the x-Qpack (not worth the trouble if I have to repair the bloody thing every 2 weeks  ), and finally replace the power supply. I was certain more parts were burnt out as the motherboard DID spark when I screwed up a few wires.. but, lo and behold, everything but the power supply survived.

I now have a GameXStream 600watt, which initially did reboot about once a week :( . However, this doesn't seem to happen at all anymore, and reboots may actually be because of power fluctuations, or brownouts, as I'm at college now. Its already been proven if more than 8 people on our floor run their microwaves, the whole floor goes out. :D
