Bodybuilding/Powerlifting

Getting fit now with the running, horrible to start running but after a couple of go's and the leg burning goes it's so much easier to just focus on breathing. Still not taken any measurements except my arm which has grown another inch.

Im just getting movement in my jaw back so I can eat again. Ive lost 2 stone (28lb) in weight so Ive got a lot of making up to do :(

Trained my legs today did some squats, straight legged dead lifts, leg extensions and leg curls. also trained calves.
Anyways! Every time i train my legs I watch this video. gives me the right motivation.

When you post Youtube videos can you use the proper tags please, I have amended your post, please use it for future reference.

This is squatting. Non of that collapsing half way down stuff. You don't bicep curl and let the weight drop back down, control is key.

Lol wouldn't go this far Arnold!

Plus King Kai

got quite a personal achievement today, something like 4 months ago I couldn't do a single pull up, maybe a couple of chin ups and that was it.

Today I managed to do 4 sets of 5 reps of full range of motion pull ups! To some it may not be that impressive but coming from 0 to 20 in 4 months is something I am incredibly proud of!

And so you should be... i'm still in the i can't even do one camp.

It's something i've set as a personal goal .

start with negatives, going from top to bottom instead of from bottom to top, release as slowly as possible and repeat as many times as you can and you'll be sore in no time.

Barbell bent over rows help too but you won't see much improvement if the weight of the barbell is too far from your bodyweight.

Pull-ups are hard, I personally don't do them anymore as I'm trying to conquer a full wide-grip chin up.

I'd say for pull-ups it's a mix of back and biceps, your arms usually burn before your back doing them though so making sure your arms are strong is a good start.

With chin-ups alongside practice it's deadlifts, bent over rows (or T bar to switch it up) and lat pulldown as your main exercises. It's mainly for a physical look aspect but it does help between sets to stretch your lats as well. Just hold onto something and bend over slightly/lean backwards and you'll feel it stretch. Really helps when training back as all the exercises tire you out fast!

Edit 26/09/13: If anyone is interested in watching the Olympia and other contests there is a live stream here: http://streaming.bodybuilding.com/2013-olympia-webcast/ it's like 2:30am though I think on Saturday morning, being in Vegas, then it'll go off air and on all weekend for different comps.

So this weekend my friends and I planned a weekend break at a farmhouse in gozo (an island very close to Malta, 20mins boat ride), so I split my workouts in push-pull-legs-arms instead of the usual workouts. I must admit I ate quite a lot of shit over 3 days, but as I finally got my results and I passed to get into Uni I was quite enjoying myself, now I'm back to shed the ton of water weight and get into the normal schedule. I just finished my chest/biceps workout and I must admit that as soon as I had my preworkout, my energy levels went from 20% - 90% in a matter of minutes. I really needed a break, I hadn't skipped a workout day in some long months :)

EDIT: Now I'm officially a computer engineering student, woohoo!

Feel gutted for him, he's not posted anything since on Twitter or Instagram since before the comp...bet he feels a bit shit but he's the type to pick himself up and prep for next year straight away!

Just want him to win it once! Lou Ferrigno never won it either, don't want Kai to be in the same boat.

So today was chest day, and bench being the final compound movement I haven't hit a 100kg on (yet :) ) I decided to give it a try, 1 rep is all I need. I tried it but once the bar touched my chest, I couldn't move, thank god my brother was spotting me or I would've needed to roll the bar the whole length of my body to get it off me.

On the bright side I found out that I'm able to do one handed pushups, form is crap and my leg muscles begin to strain alot after doing a couple of them. Well a couple of months ago I couldn't perform a single one so I'm happy with that :P

On the other compounds I am currently building up reps on the 100kg mark instead of increasing more weight. And here is a small update on PB's

95kg bench
116kg Deadlift
110kg Squat

It's scary stuff when your stuck under a weight and can't move it, rolling it down your body is painful too. Another one to try (if you don't have callipers on) is to tilt it to the side drop the weight off one side, (then grip it like your life depends on it) and the other side will tip off, fortunately only got stuck once so never tried the second way!

I don't really find it painful, it's more of a skin stretching thing, and I wouldn't dare dropping weight haha, my mom is already on the edge with me having a gym at home and all I need is to drop 10kg metal plate on the marble for her to throw away everything :(

It's uncomfortable when you get over your hips, there isn't much meat over mine so it's like rolling it over bone. Haha I know what you mean, I used to have the bench and olympic weights at home and I've cracked a couple of flags outside before.

I forgot once that I was stuck with the weight and tried to sit up (f'in stupid of me) so my neck clicked and hurt for a while...just be careful!
