Blitz Blues

I think I got a dud... I leak tested last night and there was a small bit of water.

This time I was ready, I'd checked everything and there was no way there should be a leak. I killed the power and used the tissue I had ready to get the water up. It was late. I went to bed.

This evening I took off the clamps, all the tubing was all the way onto the barbs, put the clamps back on. Tight.

Everything was dry.

Hit the power.

I observed to see what part of the tubing the water was coming from. There was nothing for 30 seconds, then water started coming out from UNDER the asus fusion NB block. Killed the power. Dried everything. Decided to try again just to be sure.

Begins to boot, then beeps and dies - VGA BIOS - is the error returned.

Re-seated the gfx card. Tried again.

Same thing.

Is my gfx card dead? Has the blitz killed my gfx card?

I don't know if I should RMA the blitz with Komplett, claim on my household insurance if the whole lot has died...

Arrrrrrrrrgh is all I can say tbh.

Dude...not to add insult to injury, but I knew this would happen. I swear you have the worst luck out of everyone on OC3D. None of your hardware just seems to work, does it?

Good luck man :(

If its coming form UNDER the Fusion block then RMA the thing. Is say take it off and leaktest it away from the board, but i don't know if youd get away with an RMA after that.

Got a spare card too test with in the mean time?

This is why i have 2 fully working PCs, a backup and enough spares too test anything and everything.

Yo.

My luck varies like everything in life...

Now the pc works, no leaks but clearly something is not right...

Edit: I'm off out so I'll be reporting back in tomorrow

To be honest mate if your NB has got wet It could easily be throwing out any kind of error. I doubt ur GFX is dead unless it got wet too.

If you need a new fusion block let me know.

Mr. Smith I feel for you. It sux that you've got a problem even before you get a chance to really test your hardware...I hope you get it sorted real quick either way :)

There is something wrong here. I tried both cpu's but even at stock things don't seem to work properly.

I can't explain all the symptoms as they come and go and vary.

I think my best option would be to RMA the mobo.

Can a faulty mobo damage hardware? Everything just cut out and I think the 6850 was frazzled... I hope it is just the mobo.

I'm buying a decent NB block to replace the asus one straight away. Or I might just air cool it...

TBH - I want to send back both the mobo and cpu for a straight swap.

Just seeking advice before I open a log/call with Komplett

Also, the drivers don't even install properly - usb ports namely.

And the stalker game doesn't work? wtf.

There are alot of faulty nvidia based boards around at the moment from all diffarent chipsets. Think nvid has had a dodgy process line befor giveing the othere guys there boards at the moment

Usb problem was fixed on my mates mobo by fully updating windows, and downloading all the latest drivers (dont know which did it :P) but it worked :)

I clocked the 6850 up to 4ghz yesterday, played stalker for a few hours. Then set the new prime95 off crunching and when I returned it was still running. It was late so I stopped it. 5hrs 18mins no errors. Cool.

I fired up this morning to nothing - a blank screen.

DET DRAM error came on. That is something to do with L2 cache (asus manual) - is this a cpu error?

I killed the power (at the plug as the machine would not turn off) fired up again, same error.

Tried for a third time VGA BIOS error... Graphics card! Switched off as I had to leave for work.

This thing throws up random errors and doesn't seem to work.

My mate almost convinced me to sell my pc and get a console!

I'm out of ideas. RMA is looking like my best bet.

Have you downloaded the STALKER updates from here. What BIOS version are you running...vers. 1101 is the latest.

Got the updates for stalker, it now works - i just expect a game to work off the bat!

Also updated the bios to 1101. No change - still acting strange.

This is a P35 based mobo - Intel, not nvidia :p

Still no joy...

Funnily enough mate I had this EXACT problem with my commando only a few days ago.

Normally I perform the following: power off via button, switch psu off, leave 30 secs, switch psu on, power pc on.

At this point the PC does the 'double reboot' type thing, performing some type of OC recovery and everything is ok.

However, it didn't work.

So next thing was to: turn psu off, remove both memory sticks, turn psu on, switch pc on, leave for 30 seconds, switch pc off, switch PSU off, insert ONE memory stick, switch psu on, switch pc on. At this point it should boot. If it does, you can safely turn off again and put the second memory stick in.

It has to be said I haven't experienced this problem with any P35 boards tho, and I've clocked the nuts out of 3 different ones now.

But Jim - this shouldn't happen. Things should just work. This keeps happening. I've found 'stable' settings - primes stable - then I shut down and it won't boot. OR sometimes it will. Then sometimes it won't. Then x error code appears, then y error code appears. Sometimes no error codes but nothing is happening.

How can a pc be fine for hours of gaming and over 5hrs of prime then after a shutdown won't boot up again the next day?

I mean, c'mon!!!

I really like the mobo, well, i will when it works!

I'm just getting a bit sick of hardware issues :(

I've had this happen my P5B Deluxe before and I find that powering on the board with no CPU for 10 seconds resets the board to factory defaults (it's reportedly a little known tweak that resets the board - thanks ASUS :D). If you have a non-boot for some reason this may be the fix you need. Or if anything, something else to try...

Hey Peevs,

Thanks bud.

This method may allow me to boot again, but surely this mobo shouldn't be this unpredictable.

It should hold its settings and damn well boot everytime! If i game on a rig for a few hours and it primes for over 5hrs then it should be fine.

I mean, its a different issue and error every day.

Not a problem mate and tis my pleasure. I hate to see you going through the motions again....especially with a new piece of kit. I agree that the motherboard shouldn't be this unpredictable, but even if we can just get you up and running for the time being it's a start. Let us know how you go and chin-up :)

Made me smile! Then laugh at myself!

I was getting worked up over nothing. I'm really stressed at the moment, negotiating a house and job - it must be getting to me.

Re-reading my comments --- it's frustration guys.

I appreciate all the help/comments.

I want the pc to work at 4ghz stable, no errors, random issues, just a nice smooth 4.0...
